The Office of External Relations and Engagement within the SC Johnson College is tasked with collaborating with college leadership and faculty in promoting the college's external impact and reputation from across Cornell to around the globe. We support the college mission through special events, conferences, corporate and external relations, academic/higher ed partnerships, and community-engaged learning. This temporary position (approximately 4 month term) is responsible for providing event planning, management, and support events for the Office of External Relations, selected Centers & Institutes, and the college (both in Ithaca and NYC). This temporary position is non-benefits eligible with weekly scheduled hours of 20 per week. The temporary Event/Conference Coordinator will utilize project management skills, administrative experience, and procurement management to develop and execute appropriate event plans in cooperation with faculty and other staff. Required Qualifications: * Prior experience planning and executing events that range from large symposia to more intimate, high-profile roundtables, both on and off-site. * Proven skill in customer service, oral/written communication, organizational and time management, adapting plans consistent with changing needs, independent judgment, and attention to detail. * Ability to manage competing deadlines, respond quickly to urgent tasks, address issues of a sensitive or confidential nature with tact and diplomacy, develop effective working relationships with key departments and contacts, and represent the work unit professionally and ethically. * Proficiency in Cvent, word-processing, PowerPoint, website editing, database and/or project management software, and electronic calendaring. * Able to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend work as necessitated by events schedule. * Technology and equipment (audio / video) competency. * Trade/Vocational/Technical School. Relevant Work Experience - Up to 2 years * Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. * Must possess and maintain valid driver license. Preferred Qualifications: * Familiarity with Cornell University contracting and procurement systems. * Project/event-planning software. Additional responsibilities include: Administration - External Relations (10%) * Support and advise on communications for individual External Relations events as needed * Manage sourcing and inventory of event related, college branded items. * Coordinate any space, supply, or office location issues Event Management - Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (90%) * Manage event planning, budget, Cvent/registration, procurement, logistics, and execution for events that are associated with SC Johnson College of Business, its External Relations department and select Center and Institute events and various student hackathons, competitions, and other related events. * Manage and deploy the use of event survey/feedback mechanisms; analyze and report on the results; make recommendations for improvement. * Develop and maintain event resources for broader college use and reference (including branded equipment, consultative resources, and references for event logistics, supplier contracting, and evaluation). * Data collection and entry to support capturing major happenings within the SC Johnson College The pay range for this position is $23.85 - $27.72 an hour.
