Clarification from the agency This is a student position that is open to current law degree seeking students enrolled in an accredited institution as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. In support of Veterans Recruitment efforts, Veterans who are law students of qualifying educational institutions are encouraged to apply. Help Duties Interns will work on the full range of communications and technology topics handled by the Commission to advance the policy goals of empowering consumers, increasing all communities' access to affordable broadband, and digital equity. In particular, interns will assist with projects that address digital equity in low-income communities, communities of color and rural areas, as well as how to increase diversity amongst broadcast licensees. Interns will also work on projects surrounding spectrum and international issues. Interns will assist the Commissioner and advisors with legal research, writing, and analysis. Interns may also participate in meetings with various stakeholder groups and help with external outreach such as drafting speeches and press statements. Duties may also involve interacting with industry counsel, consumer groups, congressional staff, and agency personnel on a variety of issues. NOTE: Work schedules, including telework, are at the discretion of agency policy and the supervisor. Qualifications * First-year (second semester), second- and third-year law students pursuing their J.D. are encouraged to apply. Superior research and writing skills, an eye for detail, a desire to work as part of a team of professionals. Excellent opportunity for students with a background and interest in broadband, communications, and media equity. * A degree seeking student in the field of Law and have completed one to two years of study toward law degree. * Enrolled in a school that has been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. * Enrolled at least half-time as defined by your school. * Be in good academic standing (i.e., must have at least a 3.0 GPA or its equivalent). * Students must provide a Cover Letter describing their interest in the position. * US Citizen or if you are not a citizen you must meet one the following criteria: 1. owe permanent allegiance to the United States (for example, natives of American Samoa and Swains Island); 2. be a lawfully admitted for permanent residence and seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B); or 3. be admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157 or have been granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1158 and have filed a declaration of intention to become lawful permanent resident and then citizen when eligible.
