Position Summary The Conservation Warden Supervisor position is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the Law Enforcement program and for overseeing the operations and planning for its team. The position will establish, coordinate, and monitor team law enforcement program activities to ensure work plan objectives are met, policies and guidance are adhered to, and that integration and coordination with other teams and programs occurs. Salary Information The classification of this position is Natural Resources Law Enforcement Supervisor, which is in schedule-range 81-03 with a starting salary of $92,206 annually ($44.33 hourly). Please note: pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan. This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period may be required. Job Details Law Enforcement Officer Requirements: Must meet the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) certification requirements as a Law Enforcement Officer. If not currently working for the Wisconsin DNR's Division of Public Safety and Resource Protection, will be required to attend an abbreviated DNR Law Enforcement Academy, 20 weeks of field training and several specialized training weeks throughout their first two (2) years of employment. OR Must be eligible for certification through the Wisconsin Department of Justice (WI DOJ) reciprocity program. Once hired, must successfully pass the Wisconsin Department of Justice reciprocity exam within first 12 months of employment. If not currently working for the Wisconsin DNR's Division of Public Safety and Resource Protection, will be required to attend an abbreviated DNR Law Enforcement Academy, 20 weeks of field training and several specialized training weeks throughout their first two (2) years of employment. Background and Pre-Employment Checks: Appointment may be subject to successful completion of physical fitness assessments, extensive background investigation, psychological testing, drug screen, and medical evaluation. Additional Certifications: Upon appointment, must possess certification in ATV, Hunting, Boating, and Snowmobile Safety, and possess a valid driver's license with no OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) convictions within one year, and no more than two (2) moving violations or at fault accidents within the past two years. Online courses are available at Safety Education - Wisconsin. Residency and Fleet Requirements: Due to being provided a squad car for emergency response purposes, the incumbent of this position shall have their primary residence and live in the State within 50 driving miles or less of their workstation. In addition, must meet and maintain DOA fleet standards, which includes the requirement to possess a valid driver's license with no OWI convictions within one (1) year, and no more than two (2) moving violations or at fault accidents within the past two (2) years of hire. Travel and Hours: Regular travel throughout the region, and infrequent travel outside of the region, based on business needs is required. Some night and weekend hours may be needed based on business needs. Eligibility to Work in United States: The DNR does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9 upon hire. Qualifications Please ensure the application materials you submit (resume and letter of qualifications) clearly describe your experience related to the stated criteria below: Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following: * Must meet the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board certification requirements as a law enforcement officer or be eligible for certification through the Wisconsin Department of Justice reciprocity program. * Experience enforcing laws, such as effecting arrests, search, and seizure, issuing citations, etc. * Experience teaching, training, guiding, mentoring, and/or coaching others in a professional work environment. * Experience collaborating with internal and/or external stakeholders. In addition, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following: * Experience as a certified law enforcement officer whose primary duty was the enforcement of outdoor recreation/natural resource-related laws. * Experience with acting or formal supervision of law enforcement staff (e.g., hiring, training, workplan and performance evaluation, approving work, etc.). * Experience leading a team or project in a professional work environment (e.g., planning large scale events or trainings, leading a process improvement, etc.).
