DESCRIPTION To provide information at the public counter and answer phone inquiries; To perform technical level work in the support of current or advanced planning professionals; and to assist in processing and filing of current planning cases and provide general staff assistance to higher level planning personnel. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from higher level professional staff. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: * To provide information, approve ministerial applications and other plans at the Planning Division public counter; and provide information over the phone and via email. * Approve minor discretionary applications and drafting correspondence related to zoning verification requests and other similar requests. * Assists in processing and filing of current planning cases by checking for completeness of applicant submittal documents and notifying applicant when additional information is required. * Complete follow-up on planning case review by identifying appropriate agencies needed for technical review and comment, identifying studies that may be required. * Conduct follow-up field work inspection and review, as assigned. * Compile data for planning studies and environmental reports, as assigned. * May transport planning or other documents to County offices, Planning Commissioners or others, as required. * Perform related duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE & TRAINING / LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: * One year of experience in an urban planning office. * Equivalent to an Associate's degree in urban planning or related field. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Land use theory, general City planning and zoning requirements. * Research and investigation procedures. * Computer software; including word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. * Demonstrate tact and diplomacy with the public. * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. * Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Mobility: frequent use of keyboard; frequent sitting for long periods of time; occasional climbing, bending, and squatting. Lifting: frequently up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 40 pounds. Vision: constant use of overall vision; frequent reading and close-up work; occasional color and depth vision. Dexterity: frequent repetitive motion; frequent writing; frequent grasping, holding, and reaching. Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking, in person and on the phone. Emotional/Psychological: frequent decision-making and concentration; frequent public and/or coworker contact; occasional working alone. Environmental: frequent exposure to noise. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a typical temperature controlled office environment subject to typical office noise and environment. Positions may require occasional overtime; weekend work and travel is rare.
