Parish Name: St. Stephen Catholic Church Location: 31020 Cole Grade Road, Valley Center, CA 92082 Reports to: Pastor Employment Type: Part Time, 15-20 hours per week - Afternoons/Evenings/Some Weekends FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Summary Youth ministry is devoted to faith development, spiritual formation and advocacy for youth from grades 6-12. Young adult ministry is devoted to faith development, spiritual formation and advocacy for young people ages 18 - 35 as a Youth/Young Adult Minister, you are called to: * Empower young people to live as Catholic disciples of Jesus Christ in the world today * Draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of our Catholic community. * Foster the personal and spiritual growth of each young person. * Challenge the minds and conscience of the young to dive deep into the truth of faith. Primary Responsibilities: * Hold two youth groups per week, one for Middle School youth and one for High School youth. * Recruit youth leaders/core team members within the youth to assist in maintaining adequate supervision, provide safety and help with planned activities. * Visit Valley Center High School once a week and collaborate with the school to empower the youth of our St. Stephen community. * Plan, organize and supervise retreats including Year 1 & Year 2 Confirmation Retreats. * Grow Young Adult group to foster a Catholic fellowship. * Provide opportunities for fellowship and faith formation for adults 18-35 and meet with them once a week. * Establish and facilitate a Young Adult Ministry Leadership Team, which is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive program * Developing a systematic and intentional plan for young adult catechesis that utilizes a creative variety of formats, settings, and timeframes. * Fostering the involvement of young adults in the life of the parish, including serving on various parish committees and being involved in parish activities. * Participate and teach with Confirmation program. Qualifications: * Active member of a Catholic Parish * Self-motivated individual with "vision" for Youth and Young Adult Ministry * Ability to teach and live witness to Catholic faith and values effectively * Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with young people and their families * Willingness to further education/development in areas of Youth Ministry, Catholic faith, etc. * College degree or working towards a degree, Youth Specialty Courses, Ministry experience * Certificate in Catechetical Ministry * Compliant with Diocesan policies, safe environment/child protection requirements and pass a background check * Good communication and decision-making skills * Administrative capabilities-organization, computer, and social media skills * Fluency in Spanish not necessary but beneficial * Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a phone system. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as maneuver throughout the facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
