Job Summary The Assistant Photo Editor will work with the photography, design, and editorial team to create and gather imagery for IEEE Spectrum, The Institute, and the Robots Guide. This position reports to the Creative Director and has no direct reports. Key Responsibilities * Work with the editorial and art staff, provide photo research, and assist in the conceptualization of imagery for long-form and short-form stories. * Acquire imagery from multiple sources including stock agencies, companies, organizations, subjects, and other sources. * Provide editors with caption and credit information for images * Prepare images in Photoshop for print and online use, including services such as color correction, retouching, and silhouetting as needed * Communicate and collaborate with editors, writers, expert authors, and freelancers * Follow established workflows for various content and platforms, and work with daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines * Provide research for photoshoots, including identifying potential photographers, videographers, and locations and assisting in acquiring equipment or accessories necessary for a shoot. * Provide the Photography Director with support services for contracts, invoices, and budgets. * Assist in the creation of social media videos for Instagram and TikTok platforms. Additional Responsibilities * Read content and conceptualize art solutions for stories technical in nature. * Work with a variety of people and personalities. * Juggle multiple projects with daily, weekly and monthly deadlines. * Be proactive and seeking questions in a highly organized manner. Education * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience photography or related subject Req Work Experience * Less than 2 years Skills and Requirements * Refined visual esthetics that aligns to the Spectrum brand and design specifications * Thorough knowledge of Macintosh OS, Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, Microsoft Word Suite. * Image correction skills, in particular color correction, silhouetting, and retouching. * Ability to work on multiple projects under varying deadlines. * Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. * Problem solving, creative thinking abilities, curiosity, and a capacity to think visually about sometimes non-visual subject matter. * Not required but a plus: Experience with photo research, Google Suite, Slack, CapCut and CMS (content management system) Other Requirements: As defined in IEEE Policies, individuals currently serving on an IEEE board or committee are not eligible to apply.
