Position Summary The Milner Student Health, Wellness, and Counseling Center at Guilford College offers an unpaid, part-time (typically approximately 20 hours per week) training experience to graduate students pursuing professional degrees in clinical psychology, counseling, social work, or closely related disciplines. Minimum qualifications include one semester of previous clinical practicum experience (or equivalent), an understanding of diverse student populations, and knowledge about the ethics of mental healthcare. The Counseling Center may occasionally host student interns during their practicum experience, at the discretion of the Director with approval from the Dean of Students. Preferred qualifications include experience with Motivational Interviewing, interest in substance and alcohol use disorders, and experience with program development and evaluation. People from non-majority populations are strongly urged to apply. The Center provides on-site individual supervision with a licensed mental health professional. The individual supervisor works to develop the trainee's clinical skill through didactics, case conceptualization, and direct feedback on video- and audio-recorded therapy sessions. The Center remains in close contact with clinical training faculty at the trainee's home institution. Primary Responsibilities of the trainee include individual therapy, group therapy as available, outreach, and consultation. Trainees are evaluated each semester and are given direct, written feedback about their progress. Trainees also evaluate the Center and their supervisors each semester.
