Description The Health and Human Services Behavioral Health area is seeking a Vocational Counselor to join the Vocational Services Program (VSP). The VSP team helps residents with mental health conditions and substance use disorders overcome barriers to employment. This position will focus on assisting residents with finding and keeping jobs in the community that provide stability, lead toward self-sufficiency, and support wellness and recovery. Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. For more information visit employee referral program. Location and hours: This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at various Hennepin County service centers, in the community, at resident's homes and places of employment, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. In this position you will: * Develop individual vocational rehabilitation plans using a person-centered approach, including documenting and evaluating progress towards achieving identified vocational goals and objectives at regular intervals. * Provide coaching, education, and support to clients as they work towards achieving their identified vocational goals and objectives. * Coordinate services with other providers with special emphasis on meeting the mental health needs of clients. * Conduct referrals, when appropriate, to other mental health or vocational programs. * Build collaborative relationships with community partners, including but not limited to employers, family members, and other vocational rehabilitation service providers. * Assist with developing and implementing Pre-Employment Transition Services, by providing transition aged clients (age 16-21) support in the areas of Job Exploration Counseling, Work-Based Learning Experiences, Post Secondary Education Counseling, Workplace Readiness Training, and Instruction in Self-Advocacy. Need to have: * Bachelor's degree or higher in vocational rehabilitation, vocational counseling, counseling psychology, or related field, and one or more years of related experience. * A valid driver's license, the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver permit and daily access to reliable transportation to travel to various sites throughout Hennepin County, and sufficient to transport clients (including children). Nice to have: * Experience: * Working with individuals with serious and persistent mental illness and/or substance use disorders. * Teaching vocational and independent living skills to individuals. * Developing and implementing curriculum. Knowledge of: * Person-centered thinking. * Vocational Rehabilitation Services programs and eligibility criteria. * County and community resources for adults with mental health and/or substance use disorders. Ability to: * Establish effective working relationships with individuals and community partners. * Work collaboratively as a part of team. * Organize information and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
