Global education at Dickinson starts when our students step onto campus and extends into the Carlisle community and the communities of our Dickinson and partner programs worldwide. Chartered just days after the signing of the Treaty of Paris, Dickinson was established at the very moment when the United States entered the international community. Global study and engagement have been cornerstones of the Dickinson experience ever since. In 1790, Dickinson became the first college in the country to offer modern foreign language study, and in 1965 Dickinson launched its first study-abroad program in Bologna, Italy. Global encompasses all the people on this campus-students, faculty and staff-the intellectual life of the campus and the lived experiences outside the classroom. The Center for Global Study & Engagement plays a central role in leading, inspiring, monitoring, organizing and assessing global education initiatives and programs. The Administrative Director (AD) for the Dickinson in Spain program is part of Dickinson College's Center for Global Study and Engagement's (CGSE) worldwide team which supports a broad array of "Dickinson in" study abroad programs around the world. The AD provides leadership, vision and expertise for the program based in Málaga, Spain in close collaboration with the onsite faculty-director (FD) (who rotates every 2 years) and the CGSE team in Carlisle, PA. The person in this position must have excellent written and communication skills and proficiency in both English and Spanish, includes responsibilities that support semester, short-term and academic year students on a direct enroll, language immersion program in Spain. The AD also serves a critical role in the College's strategic commitment to imbue our students with an immersive global perspective, a holistic sustainability education, a community orientation and civic skill set, and the ability to think across disciplines and dialogue across differences. Essential Functions: * Supports the academic program and the learning/living environment in Málaga. This includes providing any needed administrative support to the faculty director (FD) in transition and onboarding, supporting FD throughout the semester with program calendar planning, logistics and organization and collaborating to organize and run the on-site orientation; assisting FD with the planning and execution of academic excursions; works with FD and CGSE on strategic initiatives and special projects. * Manages the program's legal and financial affairs in collaboration with the FD. This includes updating the program budget and financial reporting back to the global finance team in Carlisle; tracking and updating local insurance needs; making payments for expenses related to the running of the program; and managing the college-rented apartment in Málaga (faculty director's apartment). All of this is done in compliance with local Spanish law. * Manages homestay program which includes recruiting, orientating new families, placing students and handling issues and challenges as they arise. * In collaboration with FD, advises and assists students in adjusting to life in Málaga and with cultural adjustment, group dynamics, and health and safety issues. This includes dealing with student medical or disciplinary issues and crisis management, which is done in close collaboration with the FD and CGSE-campus team. * Support for the summer program in Malaga and the summer program director. This includes coordination of onsite logistics, homestays, student arrivals and on-going support and financial onboarding of the program director. * Creates networks in support of the program and stays on top of best practice. This is done by engaging and building relationships with faculty and administrative colleagues at the Centro Internacional de Español, at the University of Málaga, with community partners and with other American study abroad programs and organizations (such as APUNE) in Málaga, Spain and Europe.
