PRIMARY PURPOSE: * The primary duties are to assist in team coaching, teaching, training, and individual student-athlete skill development, to prepare the team for competition. * Other duties include, but are not limited to: * Assists in monitoring academic, social, and personal development of track and field student-athletes. Assists in identifying and recruiting academically and athletically talented students for the track and field program. * Assists in promotion and development of program by creating and maintaining effective relationships with alumni, donors, and community members. * Assists in the planning and implementation of camps and clinics. * Participates in events as a representative of the athletics department and track program. * Maintains knowledge and remains current regarding all appropriate NAIA, The Sun Conference, Department of Athletics, and University compliance issues, policies, and procedures. * The assistant coach will adhere to all guidelines and regulations set forth by the Sun Conference, NAIA and Ave Maria University. EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required EXPERIENCE: Previous track and field experience required. CERTIFICATION: N/A PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to teach the fundamentals of the sport, coach practices, games; and the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a telephone, computer keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors and outdoors with potential for outdoor exposure to high temperatures, and safety and health hazards related to sport and weight room training.
