Schedule:  Tue - Sat, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, evenings as required, may work remotely as needed. Who we are: The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (MAC) seeks to engage our audiences in the appreciation of art, history, and culture of the Inland Northwest and beyond, through collection stewardship, exhibitions and programs that enrich and inspire. Established in 1916, the MAC is the oldest cultural organization in Spokane, Washington, and serves over 100,000 visitors each year from around the region. The museum collections contain over 63,000 objects, including the largest known collection of Plateau tribes art and artifacts. What you will be doing: As the representative of the museum volunteer program you will interact directly with visitors by researching and delivering museum interpretive content through tours, events, curriculum development for Campbell House and rotating museum exhibitions for Adults and Youth.  You will coordinate volunteer and intern activity to support the mission and vision of the agency.  In support of the Manager of Interpretation, you will provide training, scheduling, and oversight for the volunteer and Internship programs.  In addition, you will be the primary recruiter for potential volunteers and interns wishing to work for the museum.   Some of what you'll enjoy doing includes: * Under general direction, manage daily operations and check-ins with volunteers and interns, ensuring adherence to established policies and work objectives with little direct oversight * Independently develop and distribute monthly newsletters, schedules, and maintain regular communication with the volunteer corps, ensuring alignment with broader work unit goals and performance measures * Exercise decision-making authority to plan and facilitate monthly in-depth training sessions covering various aspects such as Campbell House guided tour training, content training, and youth program coordination * Organize and execute all aspects of the annual Volunteer Appreciation Brunch and plan ongoing thank-you events throughout the year to recognize the contributions of volunteers and interns * Coordinate and supervise volunteers for all museum programs and events independently, including but not limited to Mother's Day tour, ArtFest, Gala, VIP events, Family Day events, Passport to the Arts events, Outdoor Movie nights, TNL, and Holiday programs * Independently oversee internship programs including Smithsonian/MAC Internship, Campbell House Internship, and youth programs Internship, exercising discretion in recruitment, training, and supervision of seasonal college interns * Retain active volunteers under general direction through effective engagement strategies and ensuring a positive volunteer experience * Collaborate with the HR department to manage roles and responsibilities for both paid and unpaid positions within the volunteer and intern programs, making decisions without supervisory approval while ensuring compliance with employer policies and regulations * Stories from the Vault program: Research content, develop stations, train volunteers, create brochures, assist with chosen objects, photos, and ephemera. Once a month delivery of program * Lead guided adult tours for groups booked by Adult Education * Cover shifts in Campbell House when understaffed by volunteers or when we have special programs such as Campbell House Holidays * Develop cross platform/gallery/ museum wide educational curriculum. * Specifically research and create Campbell House school program curriculum * Lead School field trips in Campbell House and galleries when needed * NAI (National Association for Interpretation) Certified Guide Trainer * Deliver Gallery Talks and Special Guided tours based on temporary exhibitions * Organize the MAC's Holiday Kickoff program in November * New Volunteer and Intern training session once a month/two hours long * First day volunteer and intern training * Administrative work: background checks, contact and emergency contact REQUIRED: High school graduation or equivalent AND Two years of experience in volunteer coordination or equivalent education/experience. AND  * Ability to move or transfer up to 30 pounds *  Comfortable speaking publicly to large crowds * Experience giving guided tours * Able to learn and understand the language and concepts of DEI culture and commit to being a part of creating and maintaining a diverse, equitable, respectful, and inclusive workplace * Demonstrate a commitment to growth, learning and self-awareness when provided training and opportunities to participate in improving our work environment * Participate and behave in a manner that creates trust and builds working relationships, promoting teamwork and collaboration in the work environment. * Demonstrate the understanding that all people are valued; contribute to an equitable, inclusive and respectful environment when working with members of the group, team, organization or community * Commit to being an active participant in continually evaluating and improving strategies that promote equity and inclusion in our organization * Models and champions our culture and values; cultivates a shared, strategic vision; develops people; drives results; fosters learning; builds relationships; fosters teamwork and collaboration; communicates effectively; makes things happen as a public servant; leads and navigates change; embraces and embeds inclusion in decision making PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree in human resources, history, anthropology, museum studies, fine arts, education, or closely related field.
