The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Fire Inspector to perform fire inspection and prevention duties including fire education; to inspect various structures; to interpret federal, state and local fire codes, laws and regulations; and to provide responsible staff support to the Fire Department. * Inspect commercial, industrial, institutional and other building structures including open burning sites to ensure compliance with federal, state and local codes, ordinances, regulations and laws; review and evaluate structure; issue warnings and notices of violations and citations. * Draft, compose, prepare and distribute a variety of correspondence, documents and reports including violation and citation warnings and notices; maintain and update various records, reports and files related to fire inspections, education and enforcement. * Receive and respond to citizen complaints and inquiries; answer questions and provide information to other departments, divisions, law enforcement agencies and the general public. * Assist with the coordination of fire inspections, education and enforcement services with contractors, the general public and city employees and officials; participate in recommending prevention methods and practices to businesses and the general public. * Attend and participate in continuing education classes. * Serve as liaison for the Fire Inspections Division with contractors, the general public and city employees and officials; advise and recommend prevention methods and practices to businesses and the general public. * Represent the Fire Department's educational programs at various job fairs, schools, private agencies and other requested organizations; prepare and provide flyers, information, pamphlets and promotional material. * Participate in a variety of inspection activities requiring travel from site to site. For a complete job description, click here.Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience:   Two years of experience in the fire service or fire inspections. Training:   Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented with specialized training in fire fighting, fire science, fire inspections, emergency medical services, hazardous material handling, or related fields. LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS Required: Fire Inspector Level I certification. Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability. Preferred:   Fire Inspector Level III certification. From the time of closing the selection process is anticipated to last 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of an assessment center that may include, but not limited to, a written exercise, a presentation and a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
