The University of Virginia's Department of Student Health is seeking a Programmer Manager to lead our team of talented programmers. This role involves formulating and defining system scope and objectives based on client needs, solving complex problems, and ensuring successful project delivery. The Programmer Manager will oversee program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation, while providing technical leadership and guidance to the team. The role requires advanced skills in Power BI, SQL, Python or any other programming language, scripting, and web development. Key Responsibilities: * Guide the development/programming team efforts toward successful project delivery. * Provide technical leadership to teammates through coaching and mentorship. * Maintain high software quality standards within the team by establishing good practices and habits. * Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team. * Assist in collecting and documenting users' requirements, development of user stories, estimates, and work plans. * Prepare reports, manuals, and other documentation on software status, operation, and maintenance. * Design, develop, and unit test applications following established standards. * Package and support the deployment of releases. * Work with teammates in the migration of legacy applications to current Microsoft technologies. * Analyze and resolve technical and application problems. * Assess opportunities for application and process improvement and prepare documentation of rationale to share with team members and other affected parties. * Adhere to high-quality development principles while delivering solutions on time and within budget. * Provide third-level support to business users. * Maintain contact with Directors and Executive Director, individually and as the Leadership group of Student Health, to identify priorities for development and support. * Provide technical assistance to Information Services staff with programming projects. * Manage the process for uploading students into the EHR database and managing registration holds and SIS To Do Checklist items. * Serve as a liaison with VPSA, ITS, MCC, and other internal and external departments as needed. * Maintain Medicat, a SQL-based Medical Clinic Management software application used to schedule patients and providers, track patient billing records, and track clinical data. * Work closely with the Medicat vendor and information services staff to ensure design enhancements do not adversely affect data integrity. Perform scheduled upgrades and consult with clinical staff to ensure Medicat meets their needs. * Serve as the primary resource for both SHW staff and Medicat concerning Medicat modules including, but not limited to Practice Management, Immunization Compliance Manager, Patient Portal, Self-Check-in. * Design and develop web-based applications using MS Access, SQL, .Net, and Crystal Reports. * Develop and manage a reporting system that responds to business, clinical, and leadership needs. * Troubleshoot hardware, software, and communications when needed. * Perform other related departmental duties as needed. Minimum Requirements Education: High School Diploma, Bachelor's Degree Preferred. Experience: 5 years. Preferred Qualifications: * Proficiency in Power BI, SQL, Python or any other programming language, scripting, and web development. * Fully developed technical skills with the ability to apply them to solve problems without review. * Experience in program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation. * Ability to train and provide guidance to other employees on non-routine problems, processes, and policies. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Experience in managing a team of programmers. * Familiarity with Medicat or other medical clinic management software. * Experience with Microsoft technologies and web-based application development. * Previous experience in a university or healthcare setting. Salary Range: The anticipated hiring range for this position is $90,000.00-$110,000.00, commensurate with experience and qualifications. and includes UVA benefits. Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
