Department The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art is located in Sarasota, Florida, and is a department of Florida State University. Responsibilities Ringling Teaching Artists will help design and implement art projects for local nonprofit organizations and work with families/students of all ages and abilities as part of our outreach program. The Ringling's outreach program works to engage low-income and underrepresented students and families in our community by bringing museum experiences and art-making opportunities to them. Our programs connect the museum to our community through our partnerships with non-profit organizations, libraries, and participation in local events. Art programs are offered Tuesdays through Saturdays at off-site locations and typical tasks would include: * Plan and facilitate integrated arts and literacy programming for a variety of age groups at off-site locations, including setup and cleanup. * Collaborating with the education department to plan projects and connect to the museum collection. * Surveying participants. * Teaching art in community-based settings, arts organizations, and/or schools. * Participating in training and professional development as required. * Performing other duties as assigned. Skills important to this role include: * Applicable computer applications and basic computer functions to include Microsoft (Excel, Outlook, Word) and Zoom. * Ability to: Prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments with a high level of attention to detail. * Work effectively in a team environment and establish/maintain positive working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. * Effective and professional communication via phone, email, and in-person including speaking in public. * Problem-solving oriented with the ability to handle unexpected or difficult situations in the workplace. * Assist in planning events and trainings. Qualifications Skills * A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire and access to reliable transportation. * Teaching artists will spend at least 60% of their time offsite of The Ringling Museum. Physical * Stand and walk for long periods of time. * Ascend/descend stairs. * Ability to bend/twist. * Ability to carry up to 40lbs. * Ability to work in all types of weather conditions. Education * Bachelor's degree in an art or education related field and 3+ years of experience in specific art form and/or teaching experience with children and families * Or a combination of post high school education and relevant experience equal to 7 years. Helpful While helpful, these skills are not required to be considered for this role: * Experience in informal learning practices and classroom management skills. * Prior experience in early childhood development. * Experience teaching art in community-based settings, arts organizations, and/or schools. * Experience teaching children and families of varying ages and backgrounds, including those with disabilities and English as a second language. * Ability to create safe, inclusive, supportive, and creative environments. * Experience in public speaking. * Verbal fluency in additional language(s) other than English. * Passion for museums and arts education. Considerations Rate of Pay: The rate of pay will range between $15 - $20 per hour and will be based on the education, skills, and experience of the selected candidate. Working Hours: The working hours are determined by the outreach coordinator at The Ringling (about 28 hours a week) and will include mornings, evenings, and weekends based on the needs of the organization. Please note that any programs would be scheduled at minimum 2 weeks in advance, but additional support may be needed June & July each year. * This position is based in Sarasota, FL. * This is an OPS/Part-Time position. * This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check to include fingerprinting.
