Position Overview
Join us in the summer of 2024 and help us continue the legacy of fostering creativity, nurturing talent, and celebrating the individual artistic journey at Interlochen. We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Historical Instrument Curation - Brass or Woodwinds Summer Fellow who embodies our core values and are committed to nurturing young artists. The Leland B. Greenleaf Instrument Collection embodies Interlochen's leadership role in the coming of age of American musical education. At the heart of the collection are the rare and fascinating instruments from the C.G. Conn company, led by Greenleaf family members, foundational in the history of the National Music Camp. The collection plays an educational and inspirational role for students, musicians, and visitors, with some 300 instruments. The majority are brass and woodwinds, representing a strong band tradition, with the addition of specimens dating back to the 1700s and an impressive array of ethnomusicological instruments. As a Historical Instrument Curation - Brass or Woodwinds Summer Fellow, you'll play a major role in making the Greenleaf collection as accessible as possible while preserving, maintaining, and enhancing it. This includes creating informational materials, serving as docent, and assisting those studying the instruments.

Determine the level of access to instruments being studied based on joint evaluation with the Curator
Evaluate donations to the Collection, updating inventory as needed

Conduct at least one masterclass in area of study
Assist Curator in docent activities
Compile material (research, evaluation, etc.) on each instrument in area of study
Produce or acquire scholarly articles based on Greenleaf instruments
Increase connections to professional organizations, museums, and communities of interest
