Department Summary The Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library supports the education, research, patient care, and community service missions of the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) by meeting the information needs of faculty, students, staff, and the local health sciences community. Position Overview The Library Specialist position exists to directly support the work of professional staff. Library Specialists contribute to customer service for HSCs internal and external users and represent the library alongside professional staff by serving on committees, managing projects, and assessing services. Library Specialists are primarily responsible for facilitating access to health information. Increases library patron access to research information by organizing and processing collections, furnishing assistance in the acquisition of materials and providing assistance in the use of library technologies and resources. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Strong service orientation and ability to work both independently and collaboratively with an open approach to problem-solving. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in a collaborative environment. * Experience using SpringShare platforms. * Background in customer service, education, community engagement, or similar experience * Experience working in libraries Required License/Registration/Certifications * None Job Duties: * Support the functions of the Service Desk including but not limited to virtual chat interactions, telephone calls, processing tickets via email by performing basic/intermediate literature searches, troubleshooting electronic resources, and building FAQs. * Process requests for items, item checkout, and delivery fulfillment via the library locker system and other methods. * Troubleshoot issues with self-checkout, account access, monitor the library's physical space, and resolve inquiries about the building, library services, or policies/procedures. * Serve as a member of the Research and User Experience team by actively participating in group or staff meetings, completing projects in support of the role(s) of librarians, engaging in working groups, and serving on library committees. * Participates in library events and activities supporting student needs. * Regular creation and analysis of reports including statistics related to library patron interactions recorded in SpringShare.
