Job Title Lead Instructor of Psychology (9-months) Job Description This is a full-time 9-month position. The faculty member must instruct assigned courses in accordance with NCCCS curriculum standards and course descriptions in addition to the standards and guidelines set forth by the program accreditation entity. WCC views faculty members as learning-facilitators who actively engage students in the learning process. The full-time Instructor completes various classroom administrative duties as well as duties to satisfy the goals and objectives of WCC including committee service and professional development. A reasonable and equitable teaching load will be agreed upon by the instructor and the departmental chairperson (in concert with the division dean) and will include various kinds of responsibilities such as traditional classroom instruction, distance education instruction, professional development, curriculum development, and administrative duties related to these responsibilities. The Wilkes Campus will be the primary duty station/teaching location, but instructors may be assigned teaching duties at any of our campuses (Wilkes Campus, Ashe Campus, or the Alleghany Center) as needed. The full-time lead instructor reports directly to the department chairperson or Dean of the Division and works in concert with other instructors (full-time and part-time) within the discipline. Full Time or Part Time Full Time Essential Duties Summary Lead Instructor's duties include: * Eighteen to twenty-five hour contact-hour teaching load comprised of Psychology courses within the Associate in Arts, Associate in Sciences, and Associate in Engineering programs of study, plus a minimum of five scheduled office hours (generally one office hour per day Monday-Friday). * Being generally familiar with the North Carolina Community College System Combined Course Library and Curriculum Standards, and keeping the Wilkes Community College catalog listings and discipline webpage information current and accurate. * Assist the Departmental Chairperson or Dean of Division in maintaining academic currency (in conjunction with other full-time faculty members in the discipline, if any) by providing leadership for curriculum revision and development and by maintaining the quality and currency of the book and periodical collections in the Learning Resources Center/Library. * Assist the Departmental Chairperson or Dean of Division in long- and short-range planning and determining an annual budget. * Assist the Departmental Chairperson or Dean of Division every semester in preparing academic schedules and in selecting textbooks (in consultation with other full-time faculty members in the discipline, if any), and submitting accurate and timely information for the division schedule and textbook order. * Recruit, mentor, and evaluate qualified adjunct instructors (in conjunction with other full-time faculty members in the discipline, as appropriate). * Create and maintain current syllabi (in conjunction with other full-time faculty members in the discipline, as appropriate) and ensure that syllabi are posted to the college web portal for all sections of all courses being taught each semester. * Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Departmental Chairperson, Dean of Division, or Vice President of Instruction. In addition to Lead duties, Instructor Duties include: * Plan, create, and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student learning. * Encourage the development of Critical Thinking skills through appropriate classroom exercises and assignments. * Maintain a high level of currency in the discipline and incorporate innovative and creative instructional techniques in the classroom. * Participate in program and general education outcomes assessment and assist with the development and implementation of improvement plans. * Responsible for administrative aspects relating to beginning / end-of-semester reports, grades, and other required reports, and doing so in a timely fashion. * Communicate regularly and respond to e-mails sent to the instructor within a timely manner (i.e. 24-48 hours). * Refer students, as appropriate, to student support areas of WCC including Counseling and/or Student Support Services, the Academic Support Center, Learning Resources Center, Student Services, the Writing Center, etc. * Attend commencement exercises, committee and task force meetings, and faculty meetings as scheduled. Required Qualifications * Qualified applicants must have a completed master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline ofPsychology. Preferred Qualifications * Experience teaching at the post-secondary level. * Experience teaching online. Physical Demands This position operates in a professional academic office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. This position regularly requires long hours and some weekend work. Travel as appropriate to achieve community college objectives, attend meetings, and implement strategic initiatives. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. May be required to work some evenings and Saturdays. > Walking up to 4 hours per day > Standing/sitting up to 4 hours per day > Lifting up to 25 lbs > Climbing/stooping frequently > Pushing/pulling frequently > Stretching/reaching overhead Salary Grade Salary Salary Range $47,000 to $57,000 (9 months) based on education and experience in accordance with the college salary plan.
