Requirements / Qualifications Basic Function: To assist the Ed Services Department, under the direction and supervision of the Director of Supplemental Services and the Program Specialist of Special Projects in the translation and interpreting of all official District wide communications and documents, including confidential reports and proceedings. Documents may be of general, technical, legal, and medical content, including the Student/Parent Handbook, I.E.P.s and other documents that are mandated by state and /or federal guidelines as well as documents that are confidential in nature. The Translator/Interpreter II performs high level translation and interpreting duties involving terminology that is specific to District level projects from various departments such as, but not limited to Federal and State Programs, Curriculum and Instruction, Data Research and Assessment, Special Education as well as the Offices of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents. The Translator/Interpreter II is responsible for the coordination and dissemination of translation and interpreting duties of the Translator/Interpreter I position(s). Qualifications: The required knowledge and abilities may be acquired through any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to 2 (two) years of college or any combination of education, experience and training that meets or exceeds the standards of knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. One or more years of experience interpreting and translating in a formal setting while guiding the work of others and serving individuals and communities representing diverse cultural backgrounds is preferred. The Translator/Interpreter II must have the ability to adjust to flexible working hours when required to interpret a maximum of 5 (five) nights per month and to flex the hours of the regular day to interpret at District-level meetings that same evening. Other Requirements: Successful completion of an Advanced Bilingual assessment (Spanish); passing score on advanced assessments of bi-literate and translation skills, and Simultaneous Interpretation exercise. Valid California Driver's License and the use of a dependable automobile.
