NOTE: May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license or commercial driver's license. FUNCTION OF WORK: To assist in the repair and maintenance of Port office buildings, properties, facilities, docks, railroads, transit sheds, grounds, and appliances and to become familiarized with the operation and maintenance of mobile equipment used in these maintenance operations.   LEVEL OF WORK: Entry.   SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Direct from Port Facility Maintenance Foreman.   SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.   LOCATION OF WORK: May be used by all Port Authorities.   JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 2 by the absence of sufficient knowledge and skill to operate equipment and machinery and ability to perform maintenance tasks. Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 1, 2, or 3 - Grounds Maintenance This position is in the Facility Services department of the Port of New Orleans Maintenance Division and reports directly to the Port Facility Maintenance Foreman. This position serves as a Port Facility Maintenance Specialist focusing on equipment operation, roadways, ditches, signs, grass and fencing. This participates in the required PORT training program and obtains additional training in order to facilitate the efficient performance duties and/or required tasks. This is a safety sensitive position that requires random drug screening throughout the year. The incumbent is required to possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver's License, Class A, or other state equivalent, and be knowledgeable and capable of the safe operation of various types of equipment required to fulfill the needs of the position and the PORT. The incumbent is required to have knowledge of the use of a UHF radio, which requires proper radio etiquette. The incumbent shall utilize a telephone, cellphone, two-way communication device, computer, and email to facilitate communications if required. The incumbent must be able to perform duties many times without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent may be required to work overtime. May also require working immediately before, after, or during a disaster. 60%      Roadways, Ditches, Lots Demolition and Mowing Incumbent is responsible for performing basic road and lot maintenance by repairing roadways (concreate and asphalt), maintaining ditches, clearing drains, removing trees, clearing and grubbing land, mowing grass and spreading roadway. Accomplishes work utilizing a variety of equipment to include dump trucks, flatbeds and pickups, with and without trailers, over public and nonpublic roadways to transport rocks, sand, gravel, asphalt, and other heavy equipment. Also utilizes skid steers, tractors, mowers, front end loaders, backhoe, dozer, tractors, asphalt roller, lift and boom trucks and sweepers. May also utilize rental equipment such as excavators and graders. 35%      Fencing, Signage, Panzerbelt Installs, repairs and maintains roadway signage and posts. Determine signage needs and meets needs through signage in compliance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. This requires basic knowledge of traffic signs and their placement, the MUTCD, and other applicable guides and regulations. Installs, repairs, and maintains fencing. Makes repairs to damaged fencing fabric, poles, and other components. Installs new fence as directed. Learn and utilize Board fencing specifications and details. Makes critical repairs to Panzerbelt system for the electric container cranes in a timely manner. Requires thorough understanding of Panzerbelt configuration and manufacturer repair instructions. 5%        Other Duties, Including Emergency Support The incumbent is required to perform a variety of tasks and assignments, as directed by the supervisor, necessary to fulfill the mission of the Facility Services Department and/or Port Maintenance Division.
