ARIZONA DEPT OF ADMINISTRATION Delivering results that matter by providing best in class support services. STATE BUILDING INSPECTOR Job Location: In-state travel is required 1110 W. Washington, Suite 115, Phoenix, AZ 85007 OR 400 W. Congress St., Tucson, AZ 85701 In-office is required. However, a flexible hybrid work schedule may be afforded within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures. Posting Details: Salary: $72,000.00 - $82,500.00 (DOE) Grade: 23 Open until filled Job Summary: The Arizona Department of Administration, General Services Division, is seeking an experienced State Building Inspector to make regular inspections of all projects and improvements to statewide owned buildings and facilities. The selected candidate will make regular inspections of all projects and improvements during the course of construction to insure compliance with plans and specifications during new construction projects. The candidate will inspect the condition, maintenance and utilization of each building within the building system not less than once every four fiscal years for Quadrennial Inspections. The selected candidate will observe existing buildings and new construction for all applicable codes including but not limited to the National Electric Code, National Fire Protection Association Code, International Building Code, International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code and the International Fire Code. Job Duties: * Makes non-scheduled inspection reports on all types of building construction, materials and methods at all stages of construction * Pursues a continual knowledge of all applicable building, life safety codes and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility * Makes annual inspections of all state-owned building and facilities for conditions, maintenance and utilization, and recommends to owner the steps necessary to improve life, safety, fire prevention and maintenance, if needed * Prepares daily inspection reports for ongoing construction projects * Accurately records job site events and conditions in writing * Critiques daily inspection reports with immediate supervisor concerning any problem areas so immediate remedial action may be taken * Attends and evaluates pre-bid and pre-construction meetings in connection with the particular contractual building program * Drives on State business * Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of: * Construction practices, techniques and code compliance * Safety precautions on new construction jobs and existing occupied buildings to avoid serious injuries or loss of life Skill in: * Analytical thinking and problem solving * Computer literacy * Methodical approach to inspections Ability to: * Communicate effectively, handle possible confrontational situations, and conduct business in an appropriate professional manner * Document job site conditions in a clear and detailed manner from project start to closeout * Adapt quickly to changing conditions Selective Preference(s): * Five years of experience as a construction foreman, journeyman, construction superintendent or building inspector Pre-Employment Requirements: * Requires International Code Council Commercial Building Inspector certification or able to obtain certification within the first six months of employment * Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. An acceptable driving record for the last 39 months is required including no DUI, suspensions or revocations and less than 8 points on your license.
