We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and strongly encourage you to apply.    The North Carolina Justice Academy (with campuses in Edneyville and Salemburg) provides basic, intermediate, and advanced training for law enforcement officers on topics including anti-terrorism, community-oriented policing, criminal investigation, traffic crash investigation, firearms, self-defense, and management and supervision.  Additionally, the Academy provides basic, intermediate, and advanced training for Detention Officers and Telecommunicators on behalf of the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission. This position is located at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg, assigned to the Training Division, and is responsible for coordinating and instructing in advanced and specialized criminal justice training curricula. Development of Training  * Review or revise all course material at least once every two years. * Research/development of new course(s) to include traditional and online training. * Obtain and maintain instructor and other job-related certification(s), proficiency, expertise, and skills via staff development.  * Receive, properly research, and respond to inquiries from the field. Delivery of Training  * Teach all materials in accordance with the prepared lesson plan(s); incorporate practical skill exercises as needed; provide attention to individual students and provide feedback and guidance to all students. * Ensure adequate preparation and familiarization with instructional material(s) and administer course testing as required. * Construct student evaluation tools (testing) to measure the effectiveness of the delivered materials. * Deliver courses at a frequency that meets stakeholder demands, ensuring waitlists are addressed by scheduling additional training courses. * Plan and schedule training; plan and schedule adequate resources/personnel. * Accurately document and report significant incidents/events/issues to establish a safe training environment.  * Supervise/manage/evaluate adjunct instructors; identify, evaluate, and request contracts promptly. Subject Matter Expert Presentation/Publishing  * Demonstrate the ability to conduct a literature review, conduct original research and prepare professional publications. The candidate will be expected to deliver a presentation as a subject matter expert at a conference or professional group setting.   Note to Current State Employees:  The salary grade for this position is NC15.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  Please detail ALL work history including non-state service experience.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY or MAY NOT result. THE STARTING SALARY FOR A NEW HIRE TO THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO THE RECRUITMENT RANGE OF $51,616 to $67,980. Salary offers for the selected candidate are based on the candidate's education and experience related to the position, as well as our agency budget and equity. This person must be precise in giving instructions, be able to listen exceptionally well and read and react to other people's non-verbal cues. * Ability to write and edit training materials, hypermedia and distance learning media, publications, etc., with exactness. * Knowledge of general criminal justice practices and must maintain current expertise in a specific content area at the advanced and specialized level. * Knowledge of current educational and training methodologies, with the ability to analyze and interpret evaluation and other research data. * Ability to operate in environments without daily on-site supervision where he/she will be expected to possess strong interpersonal communication skills, be self-assured and able to organize and prioritize work, establish specific goals in response to broad policy direction, solve problems independently and collectively within a work team, be self-directed and self-motivated without daily direction and supervision, conceptualize ways to transfer theory into practical application, exhibit high moral character and behavior, including discretion in matters of highly confidential information. See oshr.nc.gov/experience-guide for details.    Master's degree in criminology, criminal justice, one of the social sciences, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressively responsible experience in the field in which assigned; or Bachelor's degree in criminology, criminal justice, one of the social sciences, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressively responsible experience in the field in which instruction is to be conducted; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Management preferences: Current Certified General Instructor with two (2) years or more experience; Experience with lesson plan development utilizing the ISD model; In-service training programs; Quality Assurance. Demonstrated experience in managing projects. Using a photograph of your diploma is not acceptable.     Credit for foreign degrees will only be given if verification of degree certification is attached to your application.  Transcripts for foreign degrees have to be evaluated by an organization like World Education Services to determine US equivalency. Any licenses or certificates must be included in the appropriate section of the application form. Veterans Preference: Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a copy of their DD-214 or discharge orders. Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS) if you are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.  If you are a former member of the NC National Guard who served for at least 6 years and was discharged under honorable conditions, you must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.
