The RA1 understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Participates in the publication of significant results. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice. Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment. Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies. Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Cancer Research: You will have the unique opportunity to delve into cancer research aligned with your interests, contributing to ongoing projects, and exploring new avenues in the field. Clinical Oncology Exposure: Gain valuable insights into clinical oncology through education on clinical trial design and supervised shadowing experiences. Career Development Training: Our program prioritizes your career advancement through a series of workshops, seminars, and mentoring sessions. These include academic skills workshops, career information seminars, and collaborative scientific interactions. Sylvester Seminars and Networking Sessions: Benefit from monthly seminars and networking opportunities presented by Sylvester, the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, providing valuable insights and fostering professional connections. Year-Round Professional Development: Continuously enhance your skills and knowledge through year-round professional development initiatives. Writing Skills Development: Sharpen your writing abilities through dedicated training sessions, equipping you with essential communication skills for your future career. Community Engagement: Engage with local communities in a bidirectional manner, fostering connections and contributing to community outreach initiatives. Conference Attendance and National Networking: Expand your professional network and stay updated on the latest advancements in oncology research through conference attendance and national networking opportunities. Summer Schedule of Career Development Sessions and Networking Events: Take part in a series of career development sessions and networking events during the summer months, including Mini bootcamps on computational and bioinformatics approaches in oncology research. Workshops covering academic skills, career training, graduate school options, and research opportunities. Field trips focused on community outreach and addressing cancer disparities. Interactions with Sylvester leadership, providing valuable insights and mentorship. CORE QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's Degree in relevant field Experience: No prior experience required Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes: * Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. * Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. * Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. * Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. * Commitment to the University's core values. * Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
