Job Summary The Senior Director of Marketing and Development Communications for Development and Alumni Relations will provide strategic leadership for marketing and development communications for Development and Alumni Relations (DEVAR). Develop and execute a plan that supports organizational and university goals to build the philanthropic brand and specifically to increase contributions, donor stewardship and alumni engagement. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Development Outreach and ancillary reporting to Assistant Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association and Chief Communications Officer of Strategic Communications. Responsible for managing a team of writers, designers, videographer and web talent and collaborate with campus Strategic Communications departments for Main Campus and UC Davis Health to create thoughtful and well-orchestrated communication materials for all phases of a comprehensive campaign; conceive compelling promotion and marketing for special initiatives; write, plan and manage the development areas of UC Davis social media platforms and publications; orchestrate video projects as well as coordinate all campaign and program collateral. This marketing professional will need to be adept at creating and implementing in a strategic way large-scale, conceptual and executable communication plans that will resonate well with different target audiences, be implemented university-wide, and be used as a stewardship tool for top-level donors. Will be a team player, equally gifted at diplomacy, consensus building and organizational acumen - plus grow talent, lead and inspire colleagues with a vision for the philanthropic brand of UC Davis. Work cooperatively with all Development, Alumni and Communications staff. In close coordination with Strategic Communications, (STRAT COM) oversee all press releases from the university in regards to philanthropy, be a spokesperson for the media for philanthropy and alumni association-related inquiries, and manage philanthropic-related media events. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience developing and maintaining a complex institutional fundraising brand campaign. Including current technologies and evaluation of creative products through both qualitative and quantitative research. * Experience in message development, audience identification and communications management in alignment with institutional development and alumni association goals. * Experience managing a strategic communications/marketing team. * Experience providing creative direction, analyzing situations, and giving sound professional judgement on marketing communication strategies as they relate to organizational goals. * Experience in creating and managing budgets and deadlines. * Excellent writing skills, including skills to prepare information in appropriate form for diverse audiences and purposes. 7+ years of professional writing experience. * Experience recruiting, training, evaluating, motivating, and coaching employees of various backgrounds and identities. Documented experience building a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion amongst team members. Preferred Qualifications * Knowledge and understanding of fundraising and experience in formulating results-oriented fundraising communication strategies for a variety of audiences. Skills to synthesize ideas and direction from multiple project stakeholders. * Experience analyzing situations and give sound professional judgement on news value, timing, and placement of development-related stories. * Experience in a higher education environment. * Skills to work effectively and persuasively with campus constituencies including other university communicators, Deans, Vice Chancellors, administrative staff, faculty members, students, donors, and alumni.
