Group Fitness Instructor Position Profile Status: Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt Salary: Starts at $23.00 to $28.00 per hour Location: Eden Prairie Community Center Hours: Varies Reporting Relationship: Reports to Recreation Supervisor - Fitness Community Center Division The Eden Prairie Community Center consists of state-of-the-art facilities, recreation programs and fitness activities designed to help our residents Live Well! The Community Center facilities include a fitness center with top-of-the-line cardio equipment, resistance training and free weights, three group fitness studios, two specialized dryland training areas, two eight-lane, 25-yard lap pools with two diving boards and a climbing wall, a zero-depth entry recreation pool, spa, water slide, two full-sized racquetball courts, three ice rinks, men's and women's locker rooms, a family locker room and several meeting room facilities available for private parties, meetings and gatherings. Position Details The fitness instructor leads group fitness classes at the Eden Prairie Community Center. This position may substitute for group fitness classes in a variety of formats. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are: * Provide instruction in a variety of fitness activities and formats. * Ensure members' needs are met through personal recognition and by providing quality service. * Monitor the well-being of all participants throughout exercise program. * Assume a leadership role as a professional in the area of fitness and wellness. * Encourage participants to continue with exercises and making healthy choices. * Ensure that a safe and healthy environment exists for exercising. * Enforce all fitness facility policies, rules and regulations. * Assist in the cleaning and general maintenance of the fitness area. * Arrive well-prepared: music cued, routine thought out, ample time for setup and to greet participants prior to start of class. While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City. Position Requirements Education: Group exercise certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA or equivalent), format-specific certifications, and First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications required. Work Experience: Experience teaching group fitness classes. Experience teaching a variety of group fitness classes is preferred. Desired specialty formats include water aerobics, indoor rowing, cardio kickboxing, SilverSneakers, Les Mills Body Pump, Les Mills Body Balance, Les Mills Body Combat, Zumba, Zumba Gold, Pilates and TRX. Position Specific Expectations Communication: Is able to convey a message to get a point across; communicates in a clear and concise manner; communicates effectively not only with participants, but members of the general public, team members on fitness staff and throughout the Community Center, as well as with direct supervisor. Flexibility: Is able to flex teaching styles and communication styles based on the clientele the interaction is with; exercises the correct amount of motivation, but also care and sensitivity based on the circumstances and demographic. Accountability: Follows through on commitments; focuses on appropriate tasks throughout the shift; takes responsibilities for actions, both as an individual and on behalf of the organization; actions and words are in sync; follows all policies and procedures; maintains confidentiality; is prepared and punctual to all scheduled shifts; takes responsibility for every scheduled shift; and takes initiative any time a substitute is needed to ensure the shift is covered. Sound Judgment: Is able to make a decision based on the right mixture of facts; determines a course of action after weighing and analyzing different options. Pre-employment Process The City of Eden Prairie conducts professional reference and criminal history checks for all employees joining the organization. All final candidates must successfully complete and pass the pre-employment process before their first day of employment.
