Job Req ID: 115859 Sr. Data Analyst We are seeking a Sr. Data Analyst who will play a key role in supporting the strategic vision and mission of the School of Education. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, this role is responsible for the design, implementation, integration, maintenance, and accessibility of resources that enable effective and reliable data analytics and business intelligence. The Sr. Data Analyst develops, integrates, and delivers reports, dashboards, and other analytical solutions used by senior leadership for strategic planning, decision support, and evaluation of key performance indicators, with a focus on core financial planning and analysis and revenue modeling that drives enrollment management decisions and efforts across the School. Specific Duties & Responsibilities * The Sr. Data Analyst provides sophisticated data analysis, informing strategic planning and analyzing the effectiveness of initiatives through data-driven research. * Develop and execute strategies to provide timely data and analyses concerning the strategic initiatives and operations of the School of Education under the direction of the Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Administration. * Develop and implement a roadmap for creation and utilization of automated data delivery and self-service data tools. * Conceptualize, build, and maintain a suite of dashboards, reports, and tools for various audiences to be used for decision support and for tracking and evaluation of key performance indicators. * Apply a variety of analytical techniques, including statistical approaches, predictive modeling, visualization, and forecasting to large, complex data sets. Synthesize information and disseminate results in actionable formats such as written reports, maps, charts, graphs, presentations, etc. for a variety of audiences. * Utilize expertise to acquire, manage, manipulate and analyze data. Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets. Develop and execute a strategy for importing data from various third-party sources, then transforming and leveraging it for analytical use. * Develop and implement solutions for cleansing data to remove errors and ensure data quality and integrity. Must be able to understand data schemas and layouts rapidly and to perform advanced data extraction. * Introduce, manage, and maintain predictive models to establish more accurate and precise projections of enrollment and revenue, the impact of changes in university policy and procedure, and other internal and external variables. * Leverage qualitative data to add context to reports and efforts to improve existing events and programs continuously. Present analysis results to various audiences. Explain methodology and findings. * Support Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Administration and Finance Director with revenue and expense projections and in preparing and managing planning files for the annual budgeting process. * Support the academic program review, development, and external program accreditation processes in partnership with academic affairs teams. Assist Enrollment Management Services in ensuring data quality and integrity for internal and external entities. * Prepare ad hoc analysis for SOE Senior Leadership and SOE constituencies using educational analytics and labor market data to determine and ensure long-term financial sustainability of new academic programs and other initiatives. * Coordinate and produce reports and surveys for internal compliance reporting and for external organizations and membership groups including US News and World Report and accrediting bodies. Serve as resource for departments/clients regarding data issues: collection, entry, quality, transfer. Provide day-to-day support and mentoring to departments/clients who are interacting with the data. * Establish strong cross-departmental relationships with SOE offices to optimize the collection, confidential storage, management, and coordination of data to enhance data-informed analytics progression. * Develop and refine data ownership policies, procedures, and best practices with SOE. Oversee the proper use of data and technology and create data-driven, analytical business processes and procedures. * Foster collaboration across departments/organizations to ensure the data flow required for analysis and identify new opportunities. * Partner with central University Information Services (UIS) to diagnose and address system and data integrity issues in university data warehouses. Contribute to developing reporting infrastructure to enhance a robust data warehouse environment. Lead special projects as assigned. * Responsible for high-level data analysis and strategic input based on analytic findings. * Present stakeholders with key findings in a non-technical manner. * Organize material and complete assignments according to established standards regarding clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Formal knowledge of statistics is desirable. * Strong proficiency with Tableau and Power BI. * Proficiency in using and producing reports using educational analytics software (e.g., LightCast). * Experience with statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS, R preferred. * Knowledge of SQL, HTML, JavaScript, PHP, VB, Flash, and ASP. * Advanced knowledge and demonstrated understanding of developing and tuning complex queries, stored procedures, and user-defined functions using T-SQL. * Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, JIRA, Confluence, VSS (or equivalent code change control applications). * Advanced knowledge and demonstrated understanding of ETL or other data processing techniques, preferably using SIS. * Familiarity with admissions and financial aid in a higher education setting. * Comprehensive knowledge of key analytics and reporting software, including SQL reporting tools, Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and Tableau (or other data presentation software). * Considerable experience with other software and workplace collaboration products, including Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, and PowerPoint) and Zoom. * Knowledge of database structures and their capabilities and limitations. * Must possess skills to convey complex ideas to non-technical audiences. * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to convey information to senior leadership, faculty, staff, and University officials. * Self-motivated, able to work effectively independently and cooperatively, and has had proven success working as a team member. * Advanced knowledge of techniques to automate report generation and delivery. * Knowledge of current trends and technologies used in data science. * This position requires multitasking and prioritizing multiple projects, deadlines, and responsibilities, requiring a strong work ethic that stresses delivering sound, accurate data. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree. * Five year's experience. * Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Preferred Qualifications * Master's Degree in a related discipline. * Three years of work experience, preferably within a higher education academic environment. * Experience automating report generation using VBA or other comparable programming. * Experience presenting non-technical key findings to clients and senior leadership. Classified Title: Sr. Data Analyst Role/Level/Range: ATP/04/PC Starting Salary Range: $62,900 - $110,100 Annually (Commensurate with experience) Employee group: Full Time Schedule: Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours Exempt Status: Exempt Location: Hybrid/Homewood Campus Department name: SOE Finance Personnel area: School of Education Total Rewards The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
