Serve as an undergraduate research assistant on the project: The Black Studies Archive at Pace. This project is to establish a Black Studies Archive that will collect, preserve, and promote the scholarship of Pace students and faculty. It will be a digital and physical collection built on the research papers and teaching materials of Distinguished Professor Jean Fagan Yellin, who started teaching in Pace's English department in 1968, whose work brought justice to African American writer Harriet Jacobs, and who recently passed away in 2023; and Distinguished Professor Ellease Ebele Oseye, who retired in 2022 after 47 years in our department as an expert on the Black Arts movement. The undergraduate research assistant will: * Organize, sort, and catalogue physical materials (e.g., books, papers, photographs) in the Yellin and Oseye collections * Scan and digitize any materials in need of preservation in these physical collections * Curate and interpret their original research and teaching materials in Black Studies for today's student audiences * You must have Work Study funding added to your awards BEFORE applying for this position. You are potentially eligible for Work Study if you are a US Citizen or permanent resident, have filed a FAFSA, are enrolled in at least 6 credits, and are in good academic standing. This position requires the following: * Must be Work Study eligible * Basic knowledge of how to scan and edit documents and images, use other media conversion technology (e.g., VHS tape to digital), or a willingness to learn * A personal interest in 19th- and 20th-century studies of African American literature and culture * Self-motivation and openness to intergenerational mentorship (i.e., learning from older and younger people) Instructions to find your Work Study eligibility status: * Log into your MyPacePortal and click on Student Home and then the "Financial Aid" box (middle of screen). * Once in Financial Aid, select the "Award Offer" tab and the correct Award Year. * Scroll down to "Options to Pay Net Cost" and take a screenshot of the funds that are allocated specifically to Work Study for the academic year.
