Opening Full Time 40 hours Range URCB 215 Radiation Oncology Schedule 8 AM-4:30 PM Responsibilities General Purpose: The full-time Senior Radiation Therapist provides supervisory oversight to the Radiation Therapists, delivering superior technical expertise, management, and operational support alongside the Lead Radiation Therapist. The Senior Radiation Therapist will report directly to the Leads and is accountable to partner with all supporting departments (patient services, nursing, dosimetry, physics, physician, and corporate support teams, etc.) Radiation Therapists and Simulation Therapists will report to the Senior Radiation Therapist when a lead is not available. Responsible for assisting the leads by ensuring adequate flow of patient care through the Radiation Oncology department. Identifies and solves patient problems, contributes to self-development and leadership by teaching and supervising co-workers and students. This position requires the ability to interact with other departments within the Cancer Center. Collaborates with others and seeks direction from supervisor or others as needed. Assumes complete responsibility and accountability with little supervision required. Responsibilities: The Senior Radiation Therapist assists in organizing all aspects of the Radiation Oncology Department under the guidance of the Lead Radiation Therapists. They will administer radiation therapy while operating all of the equipment at a competent level. They will work closely with Lead Radiation Therapists to implement radiologic policies and procedures and act as backup to the department in the Lead Radiation Therapist's absence. They will be in charge of day-to-day workflow, staffing and scheduling, addressing issues and problem resolutions. Actively serves as a leader in the radiation therapy department, directly working with other radiation therapists, and other department members. If machine goes down make sure engineering and/or physics is aware. Assist therapists if MDs and patients need to be notified. Assist with transferring patients to other machines. If patient's treatment is delayed due to insurance or planning, you may be responsible for contacting the patient and changing the patient's time. Management * Acts as a limited supervisor related to patient care and treatment delivery. Performs as a role model for radiation therapists * Quality checks and audits of charting * Monitors technical accuracy and quality of patient set-ups at simulation and treatment * Coordinate appropriate training for new procedures or equipment * When leads are off at the offsites, the Reginal Senior RTT will check coverage daily, adjust therapists. May cover an offsite when the Lead is off * Cover chart rounds and other meetings as needed * Checks emails throughout the day to be informed and address questions the teams may have * Disseminate information to therapy group from management if needed * Assists in coordinating activities of the staff radiation therapists, as assigned to ensure quality treatment delivery and maximum utilization of equipment and personnel * Aware of and enforces policies and procedures * Assist in making sure all RTTs are up to date on their competencies * Operational Support * Morning check-ins with staff, assigns coverage if needed (lunch coverage) * Checks phones for call-ins * Orients new employees and students * Conduct continuing education/in-service programs for RTTs * Attention to detail and pride in delivering consistently accurate and high-quality work in short timeframes. * Growth mind-set aligning with the CPM project * Brings information to teams from discussions from the different teams * Ability to organize/prioritize work * Experience and confidence leading complex problem solving. * Leadership, team building, and consulting skills * Strong relationship management and influencing skills Maintains clinical proficiency by delivering patient treatments with staff therapists on a regular schedule. Maintains clinical proficiency in Simulation. Works with Batavia, Noyes, and Webster. The Reginal Senior RTT will assist in training on new equipment. Must know how to use Truebeam and Aria. The Regional Senior RTT will be required to train the new hires to be proficient in Aria. Other duties as assigned Qualifications: * Radiation Therapy degree, Associate's degree level or higher. * A minimum of 3 years clinical experience in a major cancer management center. * Working knowledge of Simulation and Treatment. * New York State licensure by the New York Department of Health, as per Article 35 of the Public Health Law and registered in radiation therapy by ARRT. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
