Job Title: Student Worker - Mayborn Museum Summer Maker Space Student Employee - BC Job Classification: Events and Hospitality, Student Department: Mayborn Museum Hiring Manager: Alan Small Contact: Alan_Small@baylor.edu Work Schedule: 12 hours/week Monday, Wednesday, Friday Afternoons Desired Length of Employment: Fall Semester/Ongoing Pay Rate: $9.25 Objective: As a student employee in Design Den, students will learn the facilitation and visitor experience skills to help museum visitors to engage with new materials, tools, and ideas in making and tinkering spaces. Assist in Planning and Facilitation of Design Den: * Staff Mayborn Museum Makerspace, Design Den, during open hours. This includes preparing supplies, set-up and tear down, facilitation, and testing and prototyping activities. * Provide high quality customer service while communicating and engaging with visitors using making and tinkering facilitation strategies. * Support Museum Engagement Spark Team student employees in Design Den, ensuring they are comfortable and well trained in the space. Tinkering Training and Research: * Participate in trainings and continuing education about tinkering. This includes reading articles, watching videos, and keeping up with blogs. * Become familiar with various making tools and programs including leather working, sewing and fiber craft, paper craft, woodworking, etc. * Research ways to use recycled materials in making/tinkering and assist with collection of supplies. Evaluation, Observations, Reflection: * Research innovative ways to evaluate Design Den programs and events. * Take detailed observations in Design Den, both qualitative and quantitative, and assist in documentation. * Participate in weekly reflection meetings to discuss tinkering practices and Design Den programming. Upkeep of Design Den Exhibit Space: * Work to keep storage closets and supplies organized. * Manage supply inventories and communicate with Museum Engagement Team staff when supplies are running low. Other duties as assigned by supervisor * Assist with covering on Museum Engagement team as needed with general museum programming, Spark Team, and/or Design Den Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Creative thinker with a general interest in museum education, as well as making and tinkering * Enjoy working with the general public * Ability to work independently on personal projects * Outgoing personality and experience interacting with people from diverse backgrounds * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances * Attention to detail * Ability to effectively communicate in written and spoken English * To work alongside colleagues and volunteers and have a flexible approach to working in team situations * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an understanding of the different needs of our visitors * Excellent time management Assist in planning, coordinating and helping with events as needed * Deliver excellent customer services to clients and visitors * Provide information and answer inquiries as needed * Assist with various activities and tasks related to events and hospitality services * Ability to comply with University policies * Maintain regular and punctual attendance Employer: Baylor University Work Location: Mayborn Museum Complex Work Address:1300 S.
