Carlow University is currently accepting applications for our Business Unit Manager position.The Business Unit Manager will work closely with the leadership for the College of Health & Wellness (CHW) and office of Finance & Business Development with a focus on accounting, budget, restricted funds, and grant operations of the college. Essential Functions: Budget: Assists with the development and management of the annual operating budget(s) for the college. Supports the mission of the college and university and aligns strategic budget planning to the four pillars. Provides monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the Dean and others within the unit and the Office of Finance. Completes quarterly budget forecasts for the College of Health & Wellness and reports findings both to the Dean and the Office of Finance. Provides creative alternatives and recommendations to reduce costs and/or repurpose expenditure to improve the financial performance of the college. Financial: Ensures accuracy of actual and budget financial reporting. Ensures expenditures are recorded to the appropriate account(s) and object codes. Supports department chairs and directors in effectively using the Forvis Program Economic Analysis (PEA) data to improve program margin. Performs Procurement (Carlow Market) functions including purchase orders, and contracts/agreements. And serves as Corporate Card Reviewer for multiple Cardholders. Administrative: Collaborates with the Interim Provost and Dean of CHW with strategic planning. Communicates with CHW staff concerning business matters and advises them on standard operating procedures. Coordinates with other University departments to process financial and personnel transactions. Experience with using ERP systems or data warehouse retrieval is essential. Develops and implements systems to maintain records on employees, equipment, and compliance related activities. Attends and participates in workplace and financial training sessions. Compliance: Assists with University requirements with compliance related matters, such as Conflict of Interest (COI), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), etc. Conflict of Interest (COI): Serve as college's COI liaison in retrieving and tracking COI disclosures. Assists with resolution of conflicts and shares findings with Dean CHW. Prepares annual compliance reports of COI disclosures to the office of Finance & Business Development. Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX): Responsible for completing the SOX questionnaire for the College of CHW. Ensures internal controls are in place and are effective. Other Duties: May coordinate financial aspects of research proposals, contracts, and sub-contracts, including budget development, proposal preparation, adherence to funding requirements, liaison with university administrators, and state, federal, and private funding sources. May participate in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies, objectives, and short- and long-range planning; develop and implement projects and programs to assist in accomplishing established goals. Other duties as assigned. Education and Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices. * Three to five years directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. * Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting principles, and cost control procedures. * Ability to develop and maintain record-keeping systems and procedures. * Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and/or projections. * Strong computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Excel. * Detail-oriented in work as well as in reviewing the work of others. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, sensitivity, and discretion. * Ability to maintain a positive attitude and high level of professionalism. * Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. * Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with various constituencies in a diverse community. * Knowledge of customer service principles, techniques, systems, and standards. Physical Effort: * This position is primarily sedentary; however, some work may require walking and/or standing for extended periods. Requires extensive keyboarding and the ability to see information in print and/or electronically. The position may occasionally require the ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, to reach heights up to 8 feet by climbing ladders or stools, and to bend or kneel to reach materials or equipment stored on lower shelves or in lower cabinet/desk drawers.
