General Summary Are you passionate about cycling, a master at motivating others, and love nothing more than to see others get the results they've dreamed of? Well, you're in luck! The City of Lafayette is looking for dynamic, high-energy Indoor Cycling Instructors to join our team of fitness professionals. In addition to designing, implementing, and leading safe, effective, and motivating classes to participants of various experience levels, you also need to be organized, reliable, and able to arrive at all your scheduled classes on time. We have a unique opportunity to certify interested instructors on our new Stages SC3 Cycling bikes. Essential Functions The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive: * Leads, instructs and motivates participants in group cycling classes. * Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down or teaches to a specific format. * For each class, plans class curriculum, and prepares music and appropriate equipment, setting up and taking down equipment as required. * Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for diverse participants with varying skill levels. * Provides a safe, effective and supportive learning environment. * Keeps supervisor informed of customer and facility needs. * Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are followed. * Keeps accurate track of class attendance. * Responsible for finding a dependable, appropriate substitute upon their absence. * Attends scheduled meetings as required. * Performs related duties as required. Typical Qualifications KNOWLEDGE:Thorough knowledge of city and department rules and regulations; considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation; working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles. Thorough knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies including: the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm. SKILL: Public relations skills; demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job; choreography and music skills. ABILITY: Plan, organize, instruct, and supervise the assigned program; control large groups of people; follow written and verbal instructions; remain current on the trends of the fitness industry; communicate effectively to the participants when teaching skills; analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action to be taken; work with little or no supervision, as necessary; analyze and correct facility safety hazards; write incident and accident reports, as necessary; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public. Special Requirements Must hold current CPR/AED certification.
