Fellow in Computational Biology/Human Immunology (Post doctoral level) The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), a Harvard affiliate, is looking for an exceptional candidate to join the research group of Dr. Michael Dougan in the Division of Gastroenterology. The successful candidate will join a research program focused on human mucosal immunology and cancer immunotherapy. Our overall aim is to understand the molecular correlates of protective immunity as well as the pathways allowing pathogens to escape immune surveillance in humans. The program is funded by NIH RO1 and philanthropic awards but also includes collaborations with industry. Our laboratory and its collaborative environment offer the opportunity to work with complex human immunology data from highly relevant human diseases and to grow professionally in an equally supportive and stimulating environment. This Research Fellow position offers the opportunity to work within a highly collaborative team in the Division of Gastroenterology at MGH, and to interact with many outside scientists, including world leaders in biological engineering and cancer immunology at MIT and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Responsibilities will include developing research protocols and analytic tools for complex systems immunology within heterogeneous human populations, and to apply these tools to different disease cohorts and perturbation scenarios. We already have generated complex single-cell RNA-seq data sets from inflamed and normal colons from patients undergoing cancer immunotherapy and healthy control. The candidate must be comfortable with analysis of extensive data sets. In addition, candidates should have experience with gastrointestinal diseases including animal models and common molecular biology techniques. Successful candidate must be self-motivated, independent in task completion, and comfortable accepting feedback and guidance from colleagues, and have an interest in working with human and mouse samples and have an interest in continuing both computational and wet lab work. The candidate must also be well-versed in clinical gastroenterology. The ability to work well in a team is a must, as well as the maturity to manage numerous research studies simultaneously. Duties and responsibilities: * Develops and designs upcoming studies including wet lab and processing of human and mouse samples to generate single cell libraries and computationally analyze the resulting data * Conducts primary data analyses and refines/develops analytic approaches to the specificities of each project * Reports and summarizes analysis results of a research project by creating graphs, tables, and charts. * Designing and conducting animal and in vitro experiments to test hypotheses generated from computational analyses Qualifications Skills and Competencies Required: * MD or PhD in biologically relevant area of study * Understanding of clinically relevant issues for patients with immune-related adverse events * Demonstrable academic and scientific achievements * Experience working with large datasets * Experience planning and conducting mouse experiments * Collaborative and collegial spirit * Fluent in both written and spoken English
