Min Hourly Rate $14.70 (Standard); $13.70 (Non-Urban); $15.95 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $21.00 (Standard); $20.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Undergraduate Research Assistant positions with the Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University. The Moretti lab studies integrated weed management, novel technologies - mostly in hazelnuts, hops, blueberries and ornamental cropping systems. This position will assist with field work at multiple locations, as well as lab and greenhouse work. Students will be helping with sample and data collection, sample processing, and general maintenance and organization of research space. This position requires a valid driver's license. Position Duties The job responsibilities include field, lab and greenhouse work. Students will assist in establishing and maintaining field research plots, experiment setup, data collection, sample processing, and data entry. Additionally, there is potential to gain hands-on experience with experimental design, data analysis and presentation, and conduct small-plot field trials for active research projects. Lab: The use of basic technical lab equipment will be necessary for most tasks in the lab. Clerical work, such as data entry, and laboratory maintenance is required. Fieldwork: Assist with sample and data collection. Carry out plot maintenance, such as weeding, mowing, and watering research trials. Conditions at field sights will be hot and dry, or cold and wet. This position requires a valid driver's license. Greenhouse: Assist with plant and seedling maintenance for research trials. This includes identification of weeds, fertilizing plants, cleaning pots, and moving potting media. Greenhouse cleaning and maintenance will be required. Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: http://fa.oregonstate.edu/stu-manual/500-employment-eligibility-requirements * Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study * Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment * Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard * High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program * Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term * Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* * Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term * Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term* * International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications * Experience in horticulture/weed science is preferred, but anyone interested in horticulture is encouraged to apply. * A positive attitude is essential. * Must be able to follow detailed instructions and be capable of bringing assigned tasks to completion. * Comfortable working alone for extended periods of time, and with a team of diverse people. * Capable of conducting repetitive tasks for extended periods of time. * Comfortable driving a truck. Applicants must be students at Oregon State University and have a valid driver's license. Traveling to distant field sites using a university vehicle will be required during spring and summer.
