The Radiology Department intends to hire for two position at either the Nuclear Medicine Technologist classification or Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET), based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please indicate in your cover letter the position you wish to be considered for or indicate both. The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Radiology is seeking a Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform a variety of complex nuclear medicine imaging and laboratory procedures, including the use of positron emission tomography (PET), that require independent judgment and initiative in order to obtain information for use by physicians in diagnosing or treating patient illness. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Perform complex PET examinations. Demonstrate and display a thorough knowledge of PET tracers and their relation to molecular physiological functions. * Provide instruction to new and current staff technologists, students and medical staff. * Evaluate equipment performance, recognize image artifacts, and initiate corrective action, when needed. * Develop PET examinations; create written protocols and scanning parameters. * Explain and demonstrate methodologies for procedures, equipment and devices to residents, physicians, students and staff new hires. * Develop, implement and evaluate technology required for new procedures. * Troubleshoot computer or equipment malfunctions. * Interact professionally with patient/family. Provide liaison between medical staff and patients, patients' families, and hospital staff. * Perform duties of Staff Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET). In addition to the duties and responsibilities noted above, this classification description must include one or more statements from each of the three universal competency categories at the proficiency level of "basic" or "working". The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET) classification salary is 5, and the Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET) classification salary is 6. Benefits Highlights: * Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa * Fringe benefit package including paid vacation; sick leave; health, dental, life and disability insurance options; and generous employer contributions into retirement plans * For more information about Why Iowa?, click here QUALIFICATIONS * Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET): A Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology approved by the Council of Education of the American Medical Association or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. * Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET): Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in nuclear medicine is required. * Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET): Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in PET. * Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET):Certification as a Nuclear Medical Technologist by the Iowa Public Health Department as documented by an Iowa Permit to Practice (IPP) is required. * Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET): Reasonable (1-3 years) of progressively responsible experience in dedicated positron emission tomography (PET) procedures and related computer applications are required. * Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET): Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. * Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET): Demonstrated ability to perform complex PET examinations. * Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET): Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop and implement new projects in PET that advance new clinical applications or research endeavors. * Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET): A Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology approved by the Council of Education of the American Medical Association or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required * Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET): Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board. * Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET): Certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the Iowa Public Health Department as documented by an Iowa Permit to Practice (IPP) is required. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET) & Nuclear Medicine Technologist (PET)) * Administrative or managerial experience associated with nuclear medicine or PET (i.e. reimbursement/pre-approval, patient/employee scheduling, ordering of radiopharmaceuticals). * PET research experience. * Strong organizational skills. * Nuclear Medicine Technician: Application Process: In order to be considered, applicants must upload Cover Letter and Resume (under submission relevant materials) that clearly address how they meet the listed required and desired qualifications of this position.
