The work we do for our patients and families is guided by the following values: * Honesty: Leading with truthfulness and sincerity in all we do; * Excellence & Education: Commitment to doing our best at all times and engaging in lifelong learning; * Advocacy: Upholding integrity and dignity through compassion and care for everyone. * Respect: Demonstrating authentic consideration and appreciation of others; * Teamwork: Working together with the spirit of cooperation and active participation A Brief Overview The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) provides operational oversight of inpatient nursing services by assisting the Vice President - Patient Care Services / Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and evaluating hospital-wide nursing/patient care services, including nursing practice standards and policies, staffing, strategic planning, organizational and staff development, maintaining necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations; provides highly responsible administrative support to the CNO; acts on behalf of the CNO in any area of responsibility assigned; and acts for the CNO in his/her absence. Locations Stanford Health Care - Palo Alto, CA What you will do * Analyzes areas in planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities * Assists in planning new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue * Assists the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in providing leadership to nurse employees that will enroll their support, create ownership of goals, and have them actively participate in decisions that impact the hospital; in creating an environment that will encourage recruitment and retention of clinical employees; in partnering with physicians who use the hospital; and in maintaining necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and hospital accreditations. * Assists the CNO in developing and managing the nursing services budget and ensuring sufficient number of qualified staff to assess patient needs * Assists the CNO in establishing standards for nursing practices and maintain authority, accountability and responsibility for nursing services * Assists the CNO in managing costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value costs * Develops organizational patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how nursing care is assessed, delivered and evaluated. * Plans and provides nursing care interventions and prevents complications, promotes improvement and patient comfort and wellness * Represents the CNO in a variety of matters and assumes responsibility for the department's operations in the absence of the CNO. * Represents the nursing services at meetings as deemed necessary; participates with department heads in designing and providing patient care and services Education Qualifications * Master's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university * DNP and/or PhD Doctor degree preferred Experience Qualifications * A minimum of seven (7) years of increasingly responsible healthcare leadership experience, with a proven track record in ambulatory and/or general hospital clinical operations, clinical program development and related business planning and performance management. * Experience in the following environments: Labor unions, shared leadership governance, matrix reporting relationship, and an academic medical center. ANCC Magnet experience is preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Ability to align organizational vision, set short and long-term objectives with service line and hospital strategic goals, focus and prioritize resources, and evaluate outcomes * Ability to design new programs and lead process improvement projects * Ability to establish the strategic direction and business plans for a functional group * Ability to plan, prioritize, direct, manage, evaluate and set standards for nursing function/ program using a systems thinking approach, manage projects and change processes, and effectively and appropriately allocate resources at the care delivery level * Ability to provide leadership and influence others * Ability to supervise, coach, mentor, train, and evaluate work results * Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies; hospital and department/unit standards, protocols, policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care in the area of assignment * Knowledge of leadership and management skills essential to the practice of nursing, principles and practices of and current trends in health care delivery and hospital system organization and administration * Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, fiscal and personnel management Knowledge of the current theories, principles, practices and standards of as well as emerging technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in the nursing profession, particularly those applicable to the area of assignment/expertise * Knowledge of the types of nursing practice and delivery systems, understanding of the complexity of the nursing practice environment, roles and responsibilities of the health care team members to achieve quality outcomes Licenses and Certifications * RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure These principles apply to ALL employees: SHC Commitment to Providing an Exceptional Patient & Family Experience Stanford Health Care sets a high standard for delivering value and an exceptional experience for our patients and families. Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $126.15 - $167.16 per hour The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
