POSITION SUMMARY: The Middle Ear Research Lab at Massachusetts Eye and Ear / Harvard Medical School has a Swiss NSF-funded 2-year postdoctoral research fellow position available in early 2025, under the supervision of Aaron Remenschneider MD MPH FACS and Jeffrey Tao Cheng PhD. Our lab studies middle ear mechanics in normal, diseased and reconstructed ears. The research fellow will be conducting research in finite element modeling of human middle ear biomechanics using the-state-of-the-art Synchrotron Radiation-based X-ray Phase-Contrast Imaging (SR X-PCI) data of the middle ear collected at the Swiss Light Source of the Paul Scherrer Institute. Expected start date is Spring to Summer 2025 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Required: * PhD degree and research experience in computational modeling * Strong programing skills (e.g. Matlab, Python) * Highly motivated and productive Preferences: * Finite element modeling and nonlinear analysis on mechanics of the ear * Background in acoustics, biomechanics, and experiments in animal or human ear (temporal bone) WORKING CONDITIONS: The successful candidate will receive an appointment at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Harvard Medical School. Salary and benefits are consistent with NIH guidelines and institution policies based on applicant's experience. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * PhD degree and research experience in computational modeling and engineering, or similar field PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Routine physical activities in a lab setting, such as lifting, bending, crawling, standing, and walking.
