Description Title: Graduate Research Assistant (ISR) Position Number: 0000GA11 Hiring Unit: Institute for Sustainability & Resilience (ISR) Location: Manoa Campus Date Posted: July 23, 2024 Closing Date: Continuous recruitment until position filled; application review to begin August 7, 2024. Salary Information: $2,429 monthly/ $29,148 annual (Step 15) Monthly Type: 11 months Part Time/ Full Time: Part Time (20 hours per week) Full Time Equivalency: 50% Temporary/ Permanent: Temporary Other Conditions: Renewal of appointment is dependent on satisfactory performance, program needs, availability of funds, and meeting the eligibility requirements of the assistantship (for details, go to the UHM Graduate Division website) Duties and Responsibilities: The Institute for Sustainability and Resiliency (ISR) at the University of Hawai'i at M?noa conducts research to help inform decision-making in topics related to sustainability and resiliency for Hawai'i, with regional and national relevance. Research areas include GHG reduction, climate change adaptation, and land-use change. This Graduate Research Assistantship will contribute to ISR's ongoing research agenda in at least one of the following areas: * Policy analysis of GHG reduction targets and strategies; * Environmental, social and economic assessments of sea level rise adaptation strategies; * Policy assessment of land use programs for climate resiliency. The Graduate Research Assistantship will work with the Director as well as an ISR affiliated faculty mentor to develop a specific research project within one of these research areas. Research duties include: literature review and assessment, the identification of data, development and deployment of mixed methods, and contribution to the communication of research in a variety of forms (e.g. journal articles, research reports, blog posts, presentations and workshops). The Graduate Research Assistant will also provide general support to the ISR research program, including helping to coordinate team work elements (e.g. shared datasets, analyses and collaborative writing outputs). The Graduate Research Assistant will perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: * Full-time classified graduate student in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or higher); * Demonstrated interest in climate change and other sustainability/resilience issues, with an emphasis on policy; * Excellent written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to write reports or similar documents; * Strong organizational skills, including management of data; * Excellent interpersonal skills, able to establish and maintain good working relationships with a wide variety of people and organizations; * Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint & other relevant software. Desirable Qualifications: * Pursuing a PhD in topics aligned with the ISR research program; * Interest in sustainability and resilience issues in Hawai'i; * Ability to synthesize knowledge and research in multiple fields of climate change; * Strong oral communication skills; * Experience working with stakeholders; * Experience with key informant interviews; * Experience in GIS mapping and analysis; * Experience in applying statistical computing packages such as Stata or R; * Ability to work independently and collaboratively; * Experience in preparing articles for academic journal submission and publication.
