The Deputy Fire Marshal is a part-time position that inspects buildings and equipment to detect fire hazards and enforce local ordinances and state laws by performing the following duties below.  * Issues summons for fire hazards not corrected on subsequent inspections and enforce code when responsible party fail to cooperate * Provide educational training related to fire and life safety procedures and practices * Determines compliance and issue operational permits Education and Experience: High school diploma (or GED) and three (3) years of directly related experience and certified technical training in fire protection and prevention OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. Licensing and Certifications: * Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire * Possess a minimum of a probationary Fire Inspector Level II or higher certification issued through the the Office of State Fire Marshal Code Officials Qualification Board Preferred Qualifications: * Current Fire Inspector Level III certificate Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Gathering data, analyzing findings, and applying logic and reason * Organizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing competing demands * Providing attention to detail in assignments * Comprehending reference books and manuals * Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards * Providing customer service * Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications * Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction * Familiarity with, or the ability to gain this knowledge, both city of Raleigh and Raleigh Fire Department operations (including inspection software platform), fire inspection territory, the Office of Fire Marshal staff, and business owners  ADA and Other Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to use repetitive hand motion; stand; climb; reach with hands and arms and lift. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend. Medium Work: The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work involves frequent exposure to outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; noise; hazards and infectious diseases and works in an indoor or office environment.
