Job Summary: The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future. Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, this position independently carries out a broad range of maintenance and repair responsibilities necessary for normal operations of a facility with 500+ faculty, staff and students. The Waisman Center consists of a complex of three connected wings totaling 253,585 gross square feet (GSF). This space is diverse in type and consists of biomanufacturing, clinics, brain imaging, preschool, wet labs, child testing space and offices. In addition, external grounds consist of 1.5 acre learning space for the Waisman Early Childhood Program. The Waisman Center also has a very large public profile of 5,000 patient visits to the clinics and numerous outreach events attended by the public. This position carries primary responsibility for maintaining and repairing equipment and for general grounds/building maintenance and repair work. This position routinely interacts with building occupants and trades people, requiring excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This position is also responsible for shipping and receiving. Responsibilities: Inspects, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, design and operational maintenance as needed. * 5% Utilizes specialized equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation * 10% Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness * 20% Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures * 25% Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries independently to appropriate entities * 35% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed * 5% Serve as the facility safety office, maintain facility COOP and EOP and conduct safety training. Diploma Qualifications: The following knowledge and experience is preferred: * Experience maintaining a facility with a wide variety of functions. * Experience with lab equipment (e.g., autoclaves, incubators, glass washer, ultralows, etc.) * Experience diagnosing building and/or equipment problems and plan course of action to correct problem. * Experience following clearly defined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). * Knowledge and/or experience in repairing and maintaining furniture, office equipment, plumbing fixtures and grounds. * Knowledge of safe work practices, including operation of loading dock equipment. * Knowledge of shipping and packaging techniques. The following is required: * Excellent customer service skills. * Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a variety of building occupants. * Familiarity and/or experience with computer/software programs. * Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task. Candidates must possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license, have a motor vehicle record that meets UW Risk Management standards, and maintain ability to drive State of Wisconsin owned vehicles. Candidates must be able to lift up to 80 pounds as well as sustain long periods of standing, walking, stooping and bending on hard surfaced floors. Work Schedule: Standard work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:45am to 4:30pm (with a 45-minute break). Work Type: Full Time: 100% It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Appointment Type, Duration: Ongoing/Renewable Salary: Minimum $24.00 HOURLY Depending on Qualifications Salary is negotiable and will be based on experience and skills.
