The Position The City's Recreation and Parks Department is seeking an enthusiastic professional to serve as a Community Volunteer Specialist. This exciting opportunity will assist in the organization, development, and implementation of a new volunteer program for the City of San Leandro, Beautify San Leandro! This position will work 15-25 hours a week and hours will fluctuate seasonally. Key attributes of a successful candidate are enthusiasm, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to take on new challenges. Definition: Performs duties related to the organization, development and leadership of various programs and activities of the Recreation Department; supervises one/or more sites or oversees a specific program; hires, trains and supervises assigned staff and performs related duties as required. Supervision Exercised and Received: Recreation Specialist III's exercise general supervision over assigned staff. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: The essential functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity. * Organizes, plans, and coordinate programs for clean up and beautification projects in City parks and the public right-of-way; * Develops procedures including safety protocols and assignment descriptions; * Develops relationships with community volunteers, including individual participants, Homeowner Associations, schools, non-profits, service clubs and other agencies; * Promotes volunteer opportunities through a variety of marketing outlets; maintains the volunteer website; utilizes the volunteer management software to promote and update activities; maintains volunteer database and forms; distributes information prior to events; * Oversees and monitors expenses and processes payments for program budget; * Provides oversight for specific projects, programs and special events; * Coordinates programs with City staff and commissions; * Stocks, delivers, and maintains supplies in an orderly system; and * Assists with the set up and removal of equipment at events. Qualifications Experience and Education Guidelines: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would most likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Education: Two years of college-level course work; specialized training in area of assignment. Experience: Three years experience as Recreation Specialist II or equivalent. Licenses/certifications/other requirements: * Must be willing to work such hours as are necessary to accomplish the job requirements. Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class "C" California driver's license is required. * Must be 18 years of age. * Must obtain a negative TB test by date of hire. * Possession and maintenance of valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid card, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
