PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION Assist with installations, changes, and removals of single-phase self-contained electric metering equipment, and associated service conductors on commercial, industrial and multi-meter residential installations. Bridges equipment to maintain continuity of service while performing such work. Assist with installations, changes, and removals service drops. Terminates service laterals. Makes tests for ground faults and short circuit in customers' service wiring. Assist with energizing conductors by making connection at secondary bus on poles, in pad-mounted transformers and underground splices to service stubs. Assist with performing switching on BGE equipment, and customer owned switchgear for primary metering. Assist with installing and removing electric demand meters and recording devices to gather data for special studies. Climbs and works from poles and ladders, scaffolds, and man-lift in all kinds of weather. Assist with energizing conductors on poles. Is required to wear protective gear including rubber gloves and sleeves. Enters meter and service information on standard forms which become permanent Company documents to support customers' accounting records. Operates Company vehicles. Replenishes truck stock of materials. Assist with work from inspection reports that state installation specifications. Assist with interpreting prints, ordering materials, time recording and all appropriate documentation. Uses and maintains power tools, rigging devices, electronic gauges, hydraulic presses and various testing apparatus. Operates computer including MDT. Keeps abreast of applicable codes relating to Company and customers meters and service lines. May perform other duties as assigned. Note: Is required to respond and work during emergencies. Physical stamina to perform heavy work, climb poles, ladders, scaffolds, and man-lift in all kinds of weather. Operates crane truck and other Company vehicles. Comprises a 'Job family' with Electric Meter Mechanic Trainee. Performs other job duties as assigned. Qualifications Number of positions-1 Location-Howard SVC, Perry Hall, Cockeysville, Front Street, Piney Orchard and Westminster *Permanent location preferencing subject to CBA MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Completion of training program for Electric Meter Mechanic Trainee. Demonstrated ability to deal with customers in a pleasant, tactful manner. Recent convictions for crimes reasonably related to the activities of this job may disqualify an applicant. Valid Level 1 authorization or appropriate Commercial Driver's License, and ability to meet Company driving standards. Satisfactory completion of the Construction and Skills Trades (CAST) test battery. Demonstrated ability to write, speak, read, comprehend and communicate clearly and accurately in the English language. Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime, if and when required, consistent with the Labor Agreement.
