Summary: Chicago Magazine seeks a highly creative and enthusiastic Photo Director to join our team. The Photo Director reports directly to the Design Director and works closely with the design and editorial teams to maintain and evolve the look of Chicago magazine by bringing stories to life with inspired ideas and photography. You should be a resourceful problem solver, have a strong work ethic, and are able to juggle a large volume of projects in a fast-paced environment within tight deadlines. You should be detail oriented to meet our editorial standards and deadlines. What you will do: * Maintain an advanced knowledge of Chicago magazine's brand and aesthetic via photography * Work with the Design Director and Art Directors on idea development for photo driven stories * Oversee the production of all photography in the magazine, including hiring and budgeting of photographers and additional crew members when needed (makeup artists, stylists, etc.) * Plan and attend/oversee photo shoots * Source compelling photos from stock agencies and other sources * Contribute to the editorial content of the magazine by suggesting unique photo essays or photo-driven features * Edit and research images for the magazine and website * Source new photographers and other talent to add to our network of contributors * Direct photo researcher to ensure we have the strongest possible images for print or digital purposes * Responsible for accurate photo credits * Knowledgeable about contracts, usage rights, photo licensing, and copyright laws What you will bring: * Minimum of 5 years editorial experience preferred * Passionate about photography * Experience in sourcing images from stock, PR contacts, photographers, and other sources * Proficient in Adobe Photoshop * Highly organized and driven with an engaging and positive manner * Ability to multitask, prioritize, and thrive in a fast-paced environment * This is a remote position for someone who lives in the Chicago area and loves it Please include a cover letter along with your resume Who we are: Chicago magazine has been a part of the city's fabric since 1970, chronicling the people, places, and events that shape our region.
