The Opportunity: The Center on Labor, Human Services, and Population is seeking a senior fellow who will contribute to and expand Urban's research and policy related to child welfare. Knowledge of issues related to transition age youth is a plus. Lived experience and familiarity with the child welfare system and these issues is also valued. The senior fellow will work on a potential variety of child welfare related projects that include building evidence on effective interventions, services and outcomes for youth aging out of foster care, preventing child maltreatment, and housing for youth and families involved in child welfare. The senior fellow will contribute to other projects related to vulnerable populations, including youth homelessness, direct cash assistance in lieu of conditional supports, and guaranteed income, based on their specific expertise and interests as well as proposals and projects related to child welfare. What You'll Do: * Conceptualize, develop, and lead research and evaluation studies related to child welfare. * Direct new or ongoing projects and initiatives, including being responsible for research quality, finances, timeline, staffing and managing staff, and meeting funder goals. * Lead efforts to fundraise for new research and initiatives as well as support efforts of other staff. * Lead the development of proposals, responses to solicitations, and other meaningful business cultivation activities. * Establish or continue relationships with relevant external stakeholders, including local, state, and federal policymakers, child welfare programs, media, academia, nonprofits, and advocates. * Lead and collaborate in reporting research findings, including written products, creative data presentation, briefings, and presentations at meetings and conferences. * Communicate effectively with multiple research teams, senior and early career staff members from diverse backgrounds, and external stakeholders. * Supervise researchers and provide guidance and mentorship as necessary. Who You Are: The successful candidate will: * Possess a PhD in economics, sociology, human development, developmental psychology, public policy, social work, public health, family studies, education, or related social science field as well as 10+ years of related professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Significant experience in conceptualizing and executing on policy- and practice-relevant research and technical assistance activities. Demonstrate the quantitative, analytical, and writing skills, relevant substantive knowledge, and social policy research experience needed to perform the duties described above. * Serve as an expert in child welfare research and issues related to transition age youth and exhibit high-level oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to relate effectively to the media and other senior leaders in the field. * Bring successful business development and fundraising efforts and have substantial experience directing large scale research projects and leading and contributing to research agendas. * Exhibit strong management skills, including experience coaching staff and teams to desired outcomes. * Respect diverse perspectives and value collaborating with colleagues to create a mutually respectful work environment. The target salary range for this position is Min $165,000 - Max $240,000. Salary offered is commensurate with experience and considers internal equity.
