Division Overview: The Gambling Control Division's (GCD) mission is maintaining a uniform regulatory climate that is fair and free of corrupt influences. The division is also responsible for collecting gambling revenue for state and local governments. In addition to gambling regulation, GCD works with the Department of Revenue's Alcoholic Beverage Control Division to provide licensing, auditing, and investigative services. Motor Vehicle Division's (MVD) mission is to identify and promote efficient, cost-effective programs that benefit the interests, safety, and well-being of Montana citizens. This occurs through licensing, registering, and regulating the motoring activities of the public. MVD continually strives to provide responsive and reliable services for a growing population and with an eye toward the future. Come "Drive Customer Service" with MVD. Job Overview: The Assistant Attorney General provides legal advice and representation to the Gambling Control and Motor Vehicle Divisions. The incumbent is general counsel for the Division and is responsible for interpreting and enforcing civil and criminal gambling and motor vehicle laws and regulations. The incumbent also provides legal interpretation of gambling laws and regulations to local officials and networks with other gambling regulatory agencies around the country. Requires working knowledge of sources of Montana law and other applicable law. Advanced legal research and writing skills, including citation format. Working knowledge of word processing software, hardware, and databases. Advanced advocacy skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; organize and synthesize materials for court presentation. Ability to work independently without daily supervision and prioritize workload and meet deadlines. Minimum Qualifications: * Juris Doctorate and five years of progressively responsible experience practicing law. Prefer two of the five years to be in active litigation in state and federal courts involving constitutional law and criminal law and one of the five years be in active litigation in felony matters in district court. * Membership in the State Bar of Montana is required within six months of hire and incumbent must stay in good standing. * Other combinations of education and experience may be substituted. Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of Gambling and/or Motor Vehicle case work as preferred.
