ADJUNCT - TELEVISION WRITING AND PRODUCING The LIU M.F.A. in Writing and Producing for Television invites applications for an adjunct teaching position to start in Fall 2024. The successful candidate will teach History of Television, and must have significant experience in writing for television. Our M.F.A. program is centered around students forming a television writers room, and the instructor will teach a course that traces the evolution of narrative television script writing, from the earliest days of television into the 21st century. Qualifications: Experience in television writing is required. An MFA is preferred. Responsibilities: The class meets once a week at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn. About the LIU M.F.A. in Writing and Producing For Television The LIU M.F.A. in Writing and Producing for Television - known as The TV Writers Studio - is a two-year M.F.A. program. The core of our program mirrors the actual experience of being in a TV writers room, and it works roughly like this: At the beginning of the two year program, MFA Director Ken LaZebnik brings in a concept for a TV show. During the first year the students mirror a real TV writers room - building a world, fleshing out characters, creating a series arc, breaking individual stories, writing episodes - all that happens in an actual writers room. By the end of year one, each student has written an episode of this putative series. In year two, the cohort moves into production. We hire a professional director, DP, casting director, SAG-AFTRA actors, department heads, and shoot an excerpt of our show. (We don't shoot ten hours of television, but each student selects a scene from the episode they have written to be filmed.) In the spring, we move into post-production and work on editing, sound mixing, etc. By May, we have a finished reel of scenes. In addition to this main project, students write two original pilots, a web series, and a variety of additional classes. $1,000-$1,350 per credit Please submit a letter of application, current résumé or curriculum vita, and the names and contact information for three references.
