The PSA position functions as the Assistant Supervisor and Team Lead for the Workers Compensation Claims Unit. The position will serve as a Lead Worker to two Claims Advisor positions. The primary duties and responsibilities are as follows: * Provide leadership to the worker's compensation unit and assist the WC Claims Supervisor with supervisory duties. Function as the back-up to the WC Claims Supervisor and fill-in as supervisor is on leave or during periods of absence. * Manage all claims with a threshold exceeding $60,000 and those that meet criteria according to the guidelines established. Calculate and process compensation payments for injured workers timely. Research, calculate, prepare and negotiate settlement for functional disabilities within authority limit of $30,000 for their assigned claims in accordance with the Workers Compensation Laws and Regulations. Provide assistance and conduct in-service training at agencies requiring statewide travel regarding workers compensation focusing on dollars spent, types of injuries, body parts involved and safety measures to prevent injuries. * Determine compensability based on facts and according to the provisions of the Workers Compensation Act, rules and regulations, office policy and prior case law. Acknowledge and respond promptly by phone and/or in writing to inquiries from injured workers, physicians, agencies, attorneys and others. Process compensation payments for injured workers. Notify injured worker and agency in writing when the claim is determined not to be compensable. Consult and educate injured workers regarding their rights and benefits, providing them with helpful information in order to access and receive benefits. Calculate and issue indemnity benefits. Compute and order separate checks for payment of child support when applicable. Research, calculate, prepare and negotiate settlements for functional disabilities within authority outlined in SSIF policy and procedures. Minimum Qualifications: Six months of experience in providing direction necessary to implement the objectives of an agency, program or organizational unit. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
