About the job Boston Metal is developing a new technology to lower the environmental impact of primary metals production while delivering higher quality at reduced cost. This fast-paced startup company is expanding its operations team to run its Molten Oxide Electrolysis (MOE) cells for the production of molten metal. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping our quality control framework, directly impacting product quality and operational efficiency as we scale. This role is dynamic and hands-on, involving the creation and management of quality control processes, spearheading quality improvement, conducting in-depth analysis and reporting, and refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This role reports directly to the Senior Manager of Quality and Process Architecture. As a new business unit within the Project Management Office (PMO), the Quality Group is essential in maturing our business processes to support the commercialization of our cutting-edge metal technology. Working closely with all areas of the business, the group will achieve this in three phases: Assessment: Document the current state of our business processes, policies, and operations. Improvement Planning: Recommend short and long-term corrective and improvement actions to build a robust Quality Management System (QMS). Implementation: Implement, train, and maintain the QMS to meet ISO standards and strategic business needs. Responsibilities and Duties Develop and Implement Quality Control System: Collaborate with operations and/or engineering to design and establish quality control into our procedures, ensuring repeatable and reproducible results at every stage of operations. Support CAPA Process and Internal Issue Resolution: Collaborating with departments to facilitate quality control best practices into daily operations, with a strong focus on the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) process. Assist in tracking and monitoring corrective actions, ensuring they are effectively implemented and reporting progress to management to uphold high-quality standards as we prepare for market entry. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Consult with or, as our operations expand, plan to consult with other teams, including Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), manufacturing, and machining, to ensure that quality control measures are fully integrated into all aspects of production. Vendor Quality Management: Serve as the primary liaison with vendors when it comes to product quality, ensuring all supplied materials meet quality standards. This could include but is not limited to conducting vendor audits, monitoring performance, addressing non-conformances, and implementing corrective actions. Work alongside the supply chain management group to manage and reduce the cost of non-conformances related to vendor-supplied materials, directly supporting our commercialization efforts. Prepare for Future Customer Relationships: Begin establishing the framework for future customer interactions by participating in quality discussions, planning for continuous improvement strategies, and preparing to handle product feedback effectively. Conduct Internal Audits: Perform regular internal quality audits to maintain compliance with our QMS, and report findings to management, ensuring we stay on track as we move toward commercialization. Willingness to Obtain NDT Certification: Open to pursuing training and certification in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) as required, ensuring the ability to effectively contribute to inspection processes and uphold the highest quality standards within the organization. Required Qualifications * B.S. degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or Material Engineering or similar * At least 2 years of experience within a manufacturing setting. * Inspection experience to include first article, incoming and in-process inspection. * Familiarity with both Non-Destructive and Destructive Testing methods is preferred. * Knowledge of ISO Internal Auditing. * Proficiency in data analysis (MSA, SPC, Gage R&R) * Solid Presentation Skills * 3-4 years of experience in manufacturing Desired Qualifications * Experience working in a startup is a plus. * Certified Internal Auditor 9001 and/or 17025. * Experience as a Lead Auditor ISO 9001. * Proficiency in Design of Experiment (DOE) * Proficiency in Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) methodologies preferably PFMEA. * Certified Level II Non-Destructive and Destructive Testing methods is preferred. * Certified Level III NDE in PT, UT, MT and/or other methods is highly desired but not required. * Experience in handling high-temperature materials processes (> 1000 deg C) is advantageous.
