Position Summary DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision performs grounds-keeping and utility tasks as well as mechanical repairs and adjustments to care for and maintain all College grounds, buildings and related facilities and equipment. Position is considered part of the weather and emergency staff and may need to respond to emergency issues outside normal times. Position may be required to complete overtime work based on events and staffing needs. OUTCOME: College facilities, grounds and related equipment will be clean, orderly, safe, and prepared for college classes and functions. Essential Functions 30% Grounds Maintenance * Prune, trim, plant, edge and mulch shrubberies and trees. * Assist with the IPM program to control weeds, insects & pests. This includes hand pulling of weeds. * Pick up debris, limbs, cigarette butts, paper, leaves, etc. * Trash pickup from buildings and outside cans. * Prepare and maintain athletic fields * Sweep parking lots, driveways and sidewalks * Make repairs to sidewalk and roadways. * Power washing as needed * Inventory, maintain and repair and install signage. * Paint parking lot and roadway lines. * Mow, trim and fertilize lawn areas when required 50% Equipment Maintenance * Perform mechanical repairs, complete preventive maintenance, and make adjustments to keep equipment in good working order with proper record keeping. * Weld, cut and repair parts & equipment as needed. * Clean and secure equipment and work area at end of work shift. * Assist with repair of custodial services equipment * Budget for parts and make recommendations on useful life of equipment * Manage Facility Services Fleet Vehicles 5% Utility Requirements * Physical set-ups for college and outside events when required * Loading and unloading trucks. 10% Snow Removal * Snow and ice removal using motorized and hand equipment. * Spread rock salt, calcium or de-icing materials on steps, sidewalks, and roads using motorized equipment or by hand. 5% Safety & Regulations * Assist the College in complying with local, state and federal laws such as recycling, waste disposal, safety, Right to Know regulations, Bloodborne Pathogens standards and chemical usage. * Practice safe work habits and be aware of safety issues that may affect the welfare of employees, students or the public. * Operate and maintain the grounds equipment in a safe and prudent manner. * Use chemicals, supplies, tools and equipment properly and as directed. Experience and Education Required * High school diploma/equivalent. * Three years experience in mechanical repairs and performing preventive maintenance on gasoline and diesel engines. * Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. * Possess a Pennsylvania Pesticide Certification, preferred. * Regularly lifting objects up to 50 pounds, frequently lifting up to 75 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving objects over 100 pounds. Employee must get help if lifting over 75 pounds. * Need to operate various equipment: Pickup trucks, loaders, tractors, snowplows, snow blowers (walk behind and riding), power brooms, line trimmers, chain saws, seeders, fertilizer spreaders, tank sprayers, field marking equipment, edgers, shovels, rakes, brooms, blowers, lawn vacuums, sod cutters, aerators, irrigation equipment, shop tools and various other lawn care equipment. Required Skills and Qualifications * Work duties are in an outdoor environment with exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, fuel, grease, oils, chemicals, diesel/gasoline exhaust fumes, extreme weather conditions, high noise levels and extended equipment usage. * Occasionally exposed to heights, confined spaces, mechanical equipment/moving parts and cleaning up of bodily fluids. * Position requires climbing ladders, bending, stooping, walking, shoveling, sweeping, raking, pushing, pulling and operating equipment for extended periods of time. * Be knowledgeable of lawn care and landscaping practices. * Be able to read and understand part catalogs and diagrams to identify correct replacement parts. * Be able to read and understand electrical schematics. * Be able to operate various welding and shop equipment * Position requires handling multiple tasks and taking directions from several sources. * Understand and carry out oral and written directions. * Be able to set priorities and complete tasks under time constraints in a safe manner. * Must be able to use basic math skills to calculate mixing ratios for chemicals, to complete set up requirements for events and to determine lay out lines for athletic fields. * Must be able to work as a team and maintain cooperative relationships. * Ability to work independently in absence of supervision to follow College procedures and routines * Maintain excellent daily punctuality and attendance.
