AIR's Education Statistics program area is seeking a Research Associate to join the International Activities Program and Longitudinal Studies projects. The Research Associate would contribute to the development of statistics about education that inform the discussion, debate, and planning of decision-makers at international, national, and state levels through contracts with government agencies such as the National Center for Education Statistics. Our work includes survey and assessment design, analysis of assessment and survey data, and reporting and dissemination of research results. Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations.This does not include U.S. territories. Responsibilities The position of Research Associate requires a certain amount of adaptability to new situations and the ability to learn new skills quickly. Research and Writing: * Conduct literature searches utilizing library, computer and other sources * Write concise summaries of literature, interviews, and meetings * Author indicators for reports * Write, contribute to, and proof memoranda, correspondence, literature reviews, publications, and technical reports Statistics, Data Analysis, and Data Maintenance: * Use computer in Windows environment to prepare tables, graphs, and figures, and design databases. * Prepare data and conduct statistical analysis * Conduct data quality checks * Enter and analyze data using basic spreadsheets, databases, or statistical software Project Work/Management: * Assist in project management by attending to detail, problem solving, and displaying initiative Support Publication and Website Development: * Organize the logistics of writing and completing work products, including working with administrative staff and proof-reading documents. * Maintain a professional and effective working relationship with project staff and clients Qualifications Education, Knowledge, and Experience: * Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two year's related experience OR Master's degree in a social science or related substantive area * Proficient in R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA programming and experience in manipulating and analyzing large data sets with complex survey design * General knowledge of education policy and interest in a wide range of educational issues and research * Experience working with sample survey data. Example of data this position may work with includes NCES data sets for the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC); the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS); the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS); the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS) and the High School and Beyond Study (HS&B). * Experienced in managing tasks and assignment of increased scope and complexity Skills: * Demonstrated ability to write, think, operate, follow through and follow up independently * Demonstrated organizational abilities * Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds * Effective communication skills with the ability to work with others efficiently in a virtual work environment. * Proficiencies with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel Disclosures: This position is open to U.S. citizens only. Upon hire, incumbent will be required to obtain clearance through the Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP) system. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets.
