Title: Men's Health & Wellness Advocate - Black Men's Xchange (BMX) (Non-Profit) Hiring Range: $43,000 - $50,000 Location: Baltimore, Maryland Agency Website: www.bmxnational.org The Agency: Black Men's Xchange (BMX) is a pioneering organization dedicated to improving the health, self-concept and well-being of diverse Black males identifying as same-gender-loving (SGL), heterosexual, bisexual, non-identifying, etc. Established with the mission to address the unique challenges faced by this community, BMX offers innovative programs and services designed to foster a supportive environment where Black males can thrive and invest in community and self-preservation. Commitment to Health and Well-being: BMX is deeply committed to reducing health disparities that disproportionately affect Black males. These disparities often manifest in higher rates of chronic diseases, mental health challenges, and barriers to accessing quality healthcare. BMX addresses these issues head-on by providing targeted health education, preventive services, and wellness programs tailored to meet the specific needs of Black males. Innovative Programs and Services: BMX offers a wide range of programs and services aimed at promoting holistic health and well-being. This includes wellness initiatives that encourage healthy lifestyles, sexual health education to reduce the risk of HIV and STIs, and mental health support to address issues such as depression and anxiety. By integrating culturally relevant content and approaches, BMX ensures that its programs resonate with and effectively support the community it serves. Community Engagement and Support: Central to BMX's mission is the creation of a supportive community where Black males can feel safe, valued, and empowered. BMX hosts regular community forums, health fairs, and social events that provide opportunities for connection, education, and mutual support. These events not only raise awareness about important health issues but also foster a sense of belonging and solidarity among participants. Advocacy and Policy Change: BMX is also an active advocate for policy changes that promote health equity and social justice. Job Description: The Men's Health & Wellness Advocate serves as the initial representative and point of contact for clients seeking services. The qualified candidate is required to have a dedication to working with diverse Black males and making the client's engagement with BMX as pleasant as possible. Summary: Responsible for promoting wellness and benefits through innovative programs, services, and referrals with the ultimate goal of reducing health and well-being risks for Black males. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Facilitate Client Wellness Initiatives: Conduct wellness initiatives, communications, and outreach efforts to improve Black male health and well-being, addressing high-risk behaviors and risk factors such as tobacco use, sexual health challenges, emotional health, poor condition-management, nutrition, and heart care. * Health Education Events: Research, create, and present wellness and health education events and activities on-site, on various social-media platforms, and at preventive health clinics. * Collaboration with Experts: Work closely with expert consultants to provide wellness tools, education, and resources. * Program Evaluation: Evaluate programs on an ongoing basis and report effectiveness to the organization, including key metrics related to established program targets. * Recordkeeping: Maintain, process, and review all records of participation and other program-related recordkeeping. * Event Planning: Plan health and wellness events, including health fairs and community forums. * Partnership Development: Work in partnership with internal departments and external partners to foster collaboration on wellness, engagement, and outreach. * Representation: Represent Black Men's Xchange (BMX) on panels, in media, and community wellness committees and events. * Change Agent: Act as a change agent, both leading and personifying BMX's commitment to health and wellness. Minimum Qualifications: * Two to four-year college degree in Nutrition, Health & Wellness, Fitness & Recreation, Vocational Health, Education, or related field. * Two years of experience in healthcare, wellness, education, or organizational development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications: Education/Experience: * Bachelor's degree in nutrition, Health, Wellness, Fitness & Recreation, Education, Outreach, or a related field. Equivalent experience may also be considered. * Minimum of three years of experience in wellness, healthcare outreach, education, fitness, or a related program. * Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: * Intermediate knowledge of organizational development, vocational health, or education principles. * Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to plan and lead multiple tasks and events on target and on budget. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Word. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Ability to interact and establish positive working relationships with employees at all levels. * Ability to work independently and in a team environment. * Ability to market and gain buy-in for wellness and empowerment programs to diverse Black males identifying as same-gender-loving (SGL), heterosexual, bisexual, non-identifying, etc. * Intermediate to expert level skills in developing flyers, brochures, etc. * Ability to design, develop, and deliver training classes and presentations. * Ability to effectively communicate goals and objectives in a tactful manner. * Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding client personal health information. * Ability to take on new responsibilities and generate new ideas. * Ability to analyze and evaluate a wellness program and reach sound, logical recommendations and conclusions. Other Requirements: * Knowledge of MS Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint). * Valid driver's license. * May require some weekend and evening hours.
