Job Description: Position: Lab Surgeon Reports to: Chief OCS Liver Transplant Medical Services Background: This is a new non-clinical position based exclusively at our Andover, Massachusetts training and research facility. The Lab Surgeon will work collaboratively with NOP Clinical Training team to conduct all OCS clinical training, primarily focused on donor heart, lung and liver isolation of major vessels, administration of initial cold preservation solution, cannulation of major vessels with OCS technology cannulae and instrumentation of donor lungs, hearts, and liver on OCS. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE: * Participate in an intensive "Train the Trainer" program and become certified as a qualified trainer on the OCS for all 3 organs and be certified as a clinical trainer * Participate in an intensive surgical training on heart, lung, and liver procurement from swine models * Participate in any R&D studies for Heart, lungs and Liver development * Must pass surgical assessment evaluation by TMDX procurement surgical leads before being able to conduct solo training * In collaboration with NOP Clinical Training Managers, develop and document detailed surgical training steps and evaluation metrics to apply to all internal and external trainees * Maintain and archive training records for internal and external trainees * Develop and track training metrics to ensure success and impact of training program * Conduct surgical training sessions independently * Create, manage, and communicate training schedule and specific detailed agendas to lab staff * Verify trainee attendance and provide guidance to attendees regarding travel planning and COVID precautions as needed * Assist in managing lab logistics including: * Introductions * Name tags * Lockers/Scrubs * Training locations * Provide attendee information for IACUC authorization, as needed * Manage training equipment preparation/inventory * Projectors * iPads * Thumb drives * OCS Disposables * Customer note taking materials * Medication management * Coordinate with lab team for all medications * Perform other TMDX tasks and duties as required REQUIREMENTS: * Successful completion of the Train the Trainer program and successful certification as a Clinical Trainer on heart, lung, and liver * Successful completion and certification as a surgical technician and trainer on heart, lung, and liver OCS * Outstanding presentation skills * Understand basics of clinical research * Ability to assess performance objectively and provide feedback * Ability to clearly answer questions on the use model across all 3 organs and provide examples * Ability to collaborate with NOP leadership, Product Directors, Clinical Training Managers, and others to achieve goals and build team spirit and cohesiveness * Ability to maintain confidentiality of TMDX plans and work plans * Outstanding written communication skills * High integrity and strong work ethic EDUCATION: * DVM or VMD degree with minimum of 2 years of surgical residency/fellowship experience TransMedics is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, age, disability or protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
